Matted Mess So I written a thread asking about which grroming tools work best for getting out matts, and alot of you really helped me out. Poor Deegan had a few matts around the side of his ribs and by his shoulders and one up on his chest. It took forever too get them all out, but we did and luckily I didn't have to cut any either. But poor little Deegan was not a happy camper. He whined, cried and struggled the whole entire time. I felt like such a bad mommy for not brushing him better, but I know better now and will keep at it more often. But to me it seems like his harness may be the cause of the majority of them. They seem to be where his harness sits on him. He usually does wear his harness quite often, but I am going to have him wear it less to see for sure if it is what is causing them. I just wondered if anyone else noticed matting around where the harness lays or is it just me being a bad, bad, mommy? |
I'm sure the harness could cause matting...rubbing in places, matting the hair. Collars do that also. No...you're not a bad mommy by any means!!! |
That could be the cause. I can't really answer, because usually the only time Kacee wears her harness is when we go for a walk or a ride. I wanted to add that it's good you didn't stop, because once they learn that their crying works and you stop they'll keep it up. :p |
Oh yes, the harness can cause mats. Tuffy gets matted everytime he wears his harness, especially if we go on a really long walk. You aren't a bad mommy at all.. Sometimes even brushing regularly won't keep mats from happening. I swear that Tuffy mats in his sleep! :p Another product I really like is the Leave In conditioner from Petsilk.. it helps cut down on the amount of mats Tuffy gets and it smells awesome! |
I use Ice on Ice and its pretty good at taking out the matts. |
My first Yorkie didn't have a silk coat. I wanted it to get long but it was such an uphill battle that I finally decided I couldn't keep putting her through that I ended up cutting her back at 6 months. Yours may not be as hard to work with since it's mostly around the harness area. Good Luck!! I've used PetSilk and it's great for Crystal and I keep hearing Ice on Ice is great. |
