I need a time machine! I don't know how else I'm going to make it these next few months! I've been dying to have a dog, and for the past year and a half I've been doing my research. Recently things have come together and I've realized that the time is right now. So with the help of all of the research and information I've read here, and the help of my amazing mother, I've been in contact with a few breeders. I thought it was going to happen a little while ago with one breeder but the more things went along the more I realized she wasn't good, in fact I'm pretty sure she's a backyard breeder. All the same I said NO to her. Now I've been in contact with a few others, one of which I'm hoping will work out. She's willing to work with my budget and she's been extremely helpful in answering all of my questions. She's sent me a picture of the dad (I'm waiting for pictures of the mom and of the puppies) and we've planned a weekend that I'll come and visit to check out the puppies and the environment they're in. But every second I'm not occupied I'm thinking about my future puppy. I don't know how I'll make it until the middle of July for the visit and the beginning of August to get her. But what's worse is that I keep thinking about if this falls through too, and things get put off again. How do/have you guys made time go by in situations such as this (when you haven't quite gotten your baby and/or when you're waiting to take it home)? -Vicky P.S. This site is just amazing. I am so happy that I found it! I just can't wait for the day that I've got a Yorkie of my own to brag about and post pictures of! |
Vicky, I was in the same boat as you are now. Here's my story and how I got through it. Found a breeder but no puppies. Loved the looks of one of the studs. A friend who is a breeder bred her female with that particular stud. I talked to her and all was tentative as to if she had any females and how many. One was already spoken for. Well she had 2 females so I was upset because I really wanted a pup by that particular stud. Well another breeder friend told me that the studs owner was expecting 5 litters by him. I got excited and got up enough nerve to call. Mind you I want to show this pup so I needed full registration. I was preparing for the worst case scenario. Well after talking to her awhile we came to an agreement. I had decided on a particular female but had two other back up moms to choose from if my first choice had no girl. Needless to say a few days before I was to call back the breeder had a heart attack and was hospitalized. In the meantime her family was helping with the 5 whelping females. They hadn't realized we had a price set and quoted a price that was way more than previously agreed. I was devastated but I knew I had to look elsewhere. So I started searching again. about a week later I get an email saying that they had talked to their mom and the original price was back on due to the breeder telling them she had already told me I could have her at the agreed price. This all happened during April. May 3 I went to the breeders home and saw every single Yorkie she had and I knew the little girl was mine deposit was paid and we went home. This Saturday I finally get to go pick her up. All this time waiting I occupied myself with getting a room ready for my 3 soon to be 4. sewing for my two girls and for my friends grooming shop. oh and lots of shopping. And I learned how to knit. |

I would get some good books on Yorkies and training and read all I could. Then you could learn to sew and sew up some cute dresses or vests. And you could also learn to knit and knit up some sweaters for your new little one!! Then they will be with you in no time!! |
I am so please hubby surprised me with Tinkerbell:aimeeyork, as like you I hate waiting!! But now I have Tink all I can say is............ make the most of your last few weeks of freedom! YT!!! Yt helped me out, I've been a member for under two months and already have over 700 posts!!! I just love checking out all the cute yorkies in the pics section/gallery and the Yt nursery is fab! Now Mika is home with me and it seems like she has always been here! Good luck with finding your new baby and I hope it all works out for you this time!!! |
Thanks everyone! I'm going to take all of your advice and try my best to keep preocupied. :) I'm actually a knitter and just had a conversation last night with my Mom that ASAP I'm going to start on little doggie clothes and what not for winter time. I'm just hesitant to look any more in to patterns and things since I don't actually have a little one in the waiting (so to speak). I'm hoping once my hopeful breeder sends pictures of the pups I'll be able to discuss reserving one and see how that goes. I joked (to my mom again, of course) that I just want a puppy and if I can't have that now I'd just like one that I'm waiting for it to come home. I've been reading YT posters' suggestions and tips on things such as training and general advice. I even started a list of tricks I want to teach her (and some the steps of how to do it). But I think I'm going to try to find a book, that might be good, great idea thanks!. Thanks again everyone! It's great to scan YT but I always feel like an outsider since I don't have a yorkie of my own and can't help anyone with advice or even pictures. Hopefully soon though.... |
