anyone have pet insurance??? i have VPI pet insurance and they have been pretty good with claims. but they have always been smaller, like around 100. and the plan i have says i am supposed to be reimbersed 90%! well when bella got sick back in march her bills totaled 1300. i sent the claim in and they sent me back under 300 dollars!! i am furious!!! i cant believe they did that! everything was a legititmate charge, and i feel so angry for be taken advantage of. does anyone have a pet insurance that actually does what they say they will do??? |
I would call the insurance company and ask for a breakdown of what was covered and why the rest wasn't. If you're not satisfied, tell them that you are finding another insurer. $300 on a $1300 claim is horrible-that's just over 25%. Is there a maximum yearly pay-out?? |
not that i am aware of...im going to call tomorrow afternoon...ahhhh |
I have VPI and they seem to exclude a lot for genetic or preexisting,.I did dispute one denial and they did send me some more. You have to talk to a supervisor |
Thanks i will! because this had nothing to do with genetic...she got into something toxic and went into toxic shock. we think it was a flower from the cemetary bc thats where i was that day...i will call and ask for a supervisor...thanks!! |
I have very same insurance and right now pissed about my claim that I submitted just recently:( They diagnosed Javah with colitis and had to take fecal test. The bill came to $151, all we received was $30 for the claim:mad: I'm gonna call them up so they can break down this reimbursement amount!! |
I'm sorry to tell you that insurance companies are in the business to make money, not to protect you. They pay people to figure our ways not to have to pay you. They are useful occasionally for dogs that require expensive surgeries, but for everyday costs, in the long run, the insurance company will take in way more money from you then it will pay out. It has to; that's the only way it can stay in business. |
Yeah I have VPI and they didn't cover any of Teddi's emergency vet visit, emergency hospital or surgery with her liver shunt. They told me they pay on final diagnosis so it didn't matter that when I took her to the hospital we didn't know what she had. The only reason I don't cancel them is because I have it through work and for some reason they have never taken it out of my paycheck but they are paying VPI so I haven't cancelled. I would not recommend this insurance. There might be a better one that this or just set up a puppy bank account and put money in there for puppy emergencies. |
I think they get people when they say 50.00 deductable and 90%, problem is the 90% is not 90% of what the vet charges it's whatever they have the price set as reasonable and customary so you a 1500.00 procedure and they have a limit of 500.00 on it they are only going to pay 450.00 of a 1500.00 bill.... |
I have insurance through Banfield and when Max got really sick. I paid almost every cent out of pocket which was almost $600. If anyone has insurance that really does do what it is supposed to do, please let me know... |
I have insurance but I haven't yet had to make a claim so I am hoping that if/when I ever do I don't get screwed. The insurance I got on Tetley is through CAA - the Canadian equivalent of AAA. I got insurance on him from the very beginning so they can't claim pre-existing on me. After the thousands I spent on my last dog, I think the insurance is worth it unless you get screwed around. |
I have embrace and luckily I have not had to use it. I am wondering if it will be the same as yours and others I have heard having problems with claims. Anyway, hopefully I will not have to use it! |
Insurance I just bought vet insurance here in Canada which got mostly favorable reviews. After being told the cost of surgery for a leg injury was $3400 I knew I could not take the chance. I figured just like car insurance wouldn't want to be without it if really need it. Check the site with helpful reviews on different companies. VPI did not get good reviews. Pet Insurance Review |
My puppy is currently not insured. I was considering getting insurance. Never got to find out monthly premiums. I was also told by one rep that they would not cover genetic diseases on my breed. So if yorkies are known to have bad hips, knees, teeth, etc, it would not cover surgery. Well that is the main expense I would need it to cover when the time arises. Needless to say I stopped looking. |
That's the way 3/4 the insurance companies work Quote:
That happens to people all the time and sometimes you are lucky they even pay on the claim. I don't trust insurance companies. Unless you know all the mumbo jumbo and fine print issues inside and out, you will get screwed. |
