Bird Killer....... I have 2 Yorkies, Keisha is 7pds, 4yrs old, ball crazy and hyper, Jersey is 3pds, 3yrs old, docile and quite, she is always on my lap. This spring she has discovered birds, there have been dead baby birds in the yard I have seen her chasing them but not catching them. The other day she bolted out the door and before I knew it she had a baby bird in her mouth that was leaning to fly she was thrashing it back and forth, by the time I got there it was dead. I can't believe my baby is doing this, needless to say she has a bigger bell around her neck to give the birds half a chance....... Is there anything I can do to stop her, I love baby birds. |
Yeah, tell the momma birds not to live in your yard. Mine are baby bird killers, baby bunny killers, mole killers, bug killers...just generally anything that moves in our yard is fair game. They are also obsessed with chasing squirrels...no one's been lucky enough to catch one. |
Toby will chase anything that moves as well from squirrels(which thank goodness he has never caught) to golfers on the golf course. It is really funny to watch this 7 pound haul butt, barking his head off at these golfers, only to turn around at the last minute and haul butt back into his yard. It's like, ok, I told them off and now I'm done! Don't really know what to say except that in the classes I have Toby in, they are using he "leave it" technique where you train them on command to not touch whatever it is they are going after or have in their mouth. Maybe trying that with correction and reward would help. |
