Pet store puppy for resale? 3 Attachment(s) I found this on a classified site called Kijiji in my local area. :animal-paThis is Alex, he's adorable! I contacted the seller who just doesn't have time for him anymore (something I think should've been researched before such an impluse buy). She got him from a pet store for $1900. She says he's healthy and playful. He's two months old. I looked up his breeder from the name she gave me, Jerry Willett. Of course puppy mill but then again any breeder selling to pet stores aren't good. I got my first puppy from a pet store that my ex got for me and it was so sad. This guy is so cute but going into that route again makes me really scared, then again puppies from puppy mills are "saved" all the time right? When I found out he was a pet store puppy I told her my past experience and she said she'd lower the price for me. I'm so torn. Sorry her pictures are a little blurry. |
Well buying from pet store puppies do support the puppy mills.. but the thing is he was already sold. Now he just needs a loving home and i am sure u will be able to give that to him. Best of Luck with everything and hope all goes well =D |
Can you get a health test, I'm wondering if maybe something hasn't shown up at this age, and the baby needs expensive surgery. If you can afford it, fine. Can you ask to speak with her vet? |
You can't help the circumstances of this little guy. The owner is choosing to rehome. I guess this was her way to ensure that the little boy would be seen by more people. I would have to say go ahead and rescue him. I may be in a minority but if the owner would have wanted to "bother" looking for a new home it wouldn't have been wrong for someone to get him. |

Wait a minute....he's two months old...that's 8 weeks. Just how long has this person had him? I don't think pet stores even sell puppies at less than 8 weeks old. |

I didn't even catch that - you've always have a great eye for details. Something's fishy. |

He sure is a little cutie!! Looks bigger than 2mos to me though. Maybe its due to his background, those pet store puppies tend to be on the bigger side, IF they even tell you the right age. Reminds me of Koda at about 3-4 mos :) A little fruit bat, lol! |
Alex is super cute!!!! |

I know it regulated by state laws, and some states are tougher than other, but that is really low. |
I am not sure of what advice would be good here.. I question the age of him.. and if he does not fit into her life.. to me she could not have had him long to figure that one out..so I question that.. I think he is adorable and can see why you feel you could love him.. I would ask her if you pay for a vet visit first to make sure he is healthy.. then I would ask a good vet to do what ever it takes to find out if he is healthy.. also depends on what she is asking for him.. that is a lot to pay a pet store for a yorkie is it not.. I cannot put my fingers on it.. but something smells fishy here.. I hope not as he needs a home..and if she were letting him go cheap.. then I would say well if he needs something then I can make sure he gets it..but in this picture he does look to be healthy... anne |
If you check into things and nothing "fishy" shows up, then you have a decision to make. Can you go into this with your eyes wide open realizing that expensive health issues may come up and will you be able to deal with it emotionally and cost wise? When I adopted my Pommie at 3 mo. I knew that there was a good chance that health issues would come up. After all, it was obvious that he didn't have a good background. And, yes, he does have health issues. Has allergies to wheat, corn, and eggs. Has LP in both back knees and needs surgery this summer. I am just glad that I have him to take care of. I know he is in GOOD hands.:) |
The OP has gotten some great advice from all the posters......good luck with the decision! |
