Hates His Crate!!! Our guy is now four months old. He hates his crate. He cries every time he is in there, except for bed time. But even bed time he will only sleep there until around 5am and then cry to get out. We end up letting him out then because we can't sleep from the crying. how can we get him to like his crate? how can we also get him to sleep through the night? |
Other option is to put him to sleep in bed with you!! My 3 sleep in bed with us, we wouldn't have it any other way, or better say they... |
Maybe you can purchase a clock so he can hear the ticking sound! That might help. It took awhile for Blaze to get use to his crate and at times he still barks like a mad man but if I give into him then I will never get him back in! Good luck to you |
it is not just bed time. It is everytime. If we can't :eek:watch him and have to put him in there for a few minutes he sounds like he is dying with the noises he makes! |
It's probably not so much that he hates his crate, but rather that he hates being away from you. If we need to crate our dog, we put his crate in the room where we'll be so he can see us. But at bedtime, we keep his crate in a different room from our bedroom; while we do let him out once during the middle of the night, we decided early that it would be us setting the morning schedule--not him. Your dog probably has some sort of separation issues. While he is a puppy, I personally would not give in to his barking by letting him sleep with you--it reinforces a level of attachment to you that can get too strong for the dog's own good. |

...or get another puppy for him to sleep with.. get him a special bed... |
Pixie was like that she didn't cry she screamed. but she was 13 months old when I got her and she could go thru the night so I just let her sleep with us. When I had t leave her she would scream while I was gone, so I just lined and area I blocked off inmy room with pee pads and she did fine. Roxy did much better being left in her crate and I out her crate next to the bed at night so she coudl see us and after a few weeks when she knew to get off the bed and use a pee pad she got to sleep with us. Maybe an expen would be much better as tha tis closer to what he was raised in. Hoping things get better. |
I gave Hot Rod a "security" toy, a chewing toy and sometimes a kong in his crate. He whined and cried the first night, then a little on the 2nd night and hardly any the 3rd night. It didn't take long. I did get up every 2 hours at first to let him out, then 3 hours. But I would just get him to do his business and right back he went in. Sometimes I don't think he was even awake doing his business. You have to be strong and not give in. It will be hard but it will be better in the long run. We also got him an expen and that helped with tremendously. Good Luck.:) |
