Why do dogs lick anyway? I was just wondering why dogs lick non-stop |
Cause they love you!!! lol! I don't know the reason I just couldn't resist! :) |
If you really do mean non-stop, there might be a problem; something might be irritating them. Are you referring to them licking themselves or giving you "kisses?" I think they lick us because they like out scent and taste. Maybe they lick themselves for the same reason, but Joey licks me more than he licks himself. |
Cooper is a licker. He will lick my hands and feet constantly. After awhile it drives me a little CRAZY! |
I'm not totally sure why they love to lick so much, I chalk it up to they love us and it's a way of showing affection. Perhaps they think we need a god grooming or a shower, lol, who knows. I often tell Lil Miss Maggy may, "nope, there's no potatoes in Mommies ears, you can stop now, lol." Her favorite place to kiss us is out ears, our eyeballs and our faces, she's actually licked my tongue before in the process of me trying to tell her that's enough kisses or awe, thank you, Mommy loves you to girl. The one thing that drives me up the wall is when she wants to lick my nose none stop, lol. Who wants a puppy tongue up there nose? Ya know, lol. |
My little Cordell is not a licker, but our Chihuahua and Shih Tzu both are! They will lick for hours on end it seems...especially my husband, who allows it! LOL! |
...... there not licking .... there kissing you .... :D |
One of mine is particularly obsessed with licking between your toes  |

My female Tinka, loves to lick my hands while I'm holding her. I spoke to the vet about it and he said that Yorkies are a bit obsessive compulsive, but I think it is cos they are been affectionate. |

I really can't answer that question but Jini is a licker too. She loves to lick my ears and nose. My rottie is a licker too imagine the difference between a yorkie and a rott. :) |
Cause they can!!!!!!!!!!;) |
i was just going to say that.. :eyetearss:eyetearss |
HAHAHA funny thread. My Koda will lick our boo-boo's. My daughter had scraped her elbow and she had a sore there, and Koda will go to town licking it. I guess he does it because he thinks he is keeping it clean. LOL. And I have really cracked dry skin on the heels of my feet. And if Koda see's my cracked feet he starts licking them.:D Like I said, I guess he thinks he has to groom us, and keep us nice and clean. LOL |
belly rubs :animal36 i read recently that belly rubs are not good for training... it can stimulate aggressive behavior..the dog will think it is ok to express dominance behavior toward me by putting paws on me, mouthiing me, head butting me, and so on... kissing? if i do not tolerate the aggression, the dog will look for another creature to express the dominance behavior.. another dog or a child.. NO MORE BELLY RUBS.....PLEASE:):animal36 |
I am glad to read that Kiki is not the only one who is lick obsesive....sometimes it drives me nuts...but she is to cute to ever get mad at....lick lick lick!! |

Licking is a way our pet dogs can greet us, say 'glad you're back!' and strengthen their relationship with us, lick the mouths of the adults as a greeting to stimulate them to regurgitate. The puppies eat this regurgitated food as they are weaned from their mother and begin to eat solid food. As the puppies grow older, the licking becomes a way of welcoming others back into the pack and increasing the bonds between the pack members. |
