New Owner, Need Advice Please!!

Ok, let me start from the beginning.. Three weeks ago I bought my puppy at a arts and crafts show ( I know BAD breeder, which I come to learn operates a puppy mill) . She was SUPPOSIVELY 8 weeks old which I doubt and we took her right to the vet that day and she checked out fine weighing 1.2 lbs! She has had a total of 5 hypoglasmic attacks which Luckily I have caught in time. My questions are feedings and playtime/sleep! She acts like she hates to eat which after reading in this yorkie talk I see yorkies are no BIG eaters like my shih tzu who eats Everything. Any advice on getting her to eat! ( oh and I have nutrical which I give morning and night in which she hates to take and I have to put in the roof of her mouth. Secondly, we been letting her have free roam of the house 75% of the time in which she runs all over playing and growling at toys. Since she is so tiny (1.5lbs as of last fri & takin her to weigh this friday again hoping she steadily gains) should we keep her in her cage more.. (which is big and has her bed on one side and her pee pad on the other + fresh ffod and water) any help would be so grateful. I havent been getting any sleep these past 3 weeks bc i get up 3 times a night to check on her. All the attacks happens around 3 am/ 4 am time frame!! thanks sorry so long!!! :animal-pa

I'm helping one from my sister's litter. She had a hypoglycemic episode and doesn't want to eat anything. Vet said to syringe canned dog food every 2 hours, 5 cc's. She weighs the same as yours. Science Diet or Hills Prescription is good for this, not chunky and thin. We're also adding a little water because she doesn't drink much either. Though her gums are pink blood tests revealed she's still low in sugar. So we're adding karo syrup a couple times a day. Good luck with your girl,

:welcome4: Welcome to YT. I don't have any good advice to give you, but I know you'll get a lot of good info here. Would love to see pictures when you get time to post some.

I really hate to say this, but being so young and tiny, you probably have many more weeks of possible hypo attacks.

The nutrical is great, but I would give it every couple of hours. I would also put kayro syrup in her water bowl all the time to make sure she is getting enough sugar during the day. You can also drizzle honey on top of some boiled chicken and feed that to her in the morning and at night. I would also try to get her to eat something very late at night since she has hypo attacks in the middle of the night.

Now for free run. Mine didn't get free run until they were about 1.5 yrs old. Too much freedom at young ages doesn't really allow for proper training. The crate sounds nice or you can get an expen, they have a great Play Yard white plastic 6 panel one at Walmart.com: Save money. Live better. - it about $50 and if you do a site to store the shipping is free. These are great b/c you can constantly keep her contained or make a big area smaller.

P.S. I also would get some pedialite and a syringe and I would force that down throughout the day too just to be extra safe about hypo attacks.

my brooklyn wont eat either. i dont know how she survives. what are these attacks like? this is our first yorkie and i dont know either. brooklyn has been potty trained for a long time now and she started to pee & poop all over the place again, do you know why. any advice would be helpful. terryy brooklyns mommy

I had this same issue with Lily, I would put her dry food in the microwave with water for 10 sec. and mash it up with soft dog food and syringe feed her. I also always kept nutra cal (sp) on hand. I would also let her have plane yogurt and cottage cheese. Also try boiled chicken and white rice, boiled veggies.

How old is she?

They tend to regress with training at times, so you may have to start back at the beginning and limit her free area ;)
