Bentley came home yesterday and I have some questions!! Bentley is 12 wks old today.. I just picked him up yesterday morning.. Do I need to give him some time to adjust before I start crate training and housebreaking? He will not play right now. he is just walking around and cries all the time.. He pees in his crate and in his bellyband like every 30 minutes..Last night he slept in his crate beside my bed with his blanket the breeder sent home but he peed all over that .. He never made a peep all night but he sure made a mess. He does not look at me or acknowledge me when I try to praise him so it is making it difficult to try and start potty training him.. He wants to lay beside the xpen where Kallies puppies are all the time.. Any suggestions on how to make this an easier transition? |
Awww....that's got to be hard on both of you!!! I think I would give him some time to get adjusted....let him sniff around and investigate (superivsed) and get aquainted with everyone and everything on his terms. Maybe someone with more puppy experience can offer some words of wisdom on housebreaking and such. Congratulations on your new baby though. :) |
aww poor guy. It takes a while. It took a good week for layla to get used to our home. I'm sure he wants to be with the new puppies because taht is what he is used to. are they old enough for him to join them? have you made the area he sleeps in (in his crate) very small? if it is small enough for him to just lay in he should wake you when he need to pee. But give it a bit... it can take them a while.. this must be a HUGE adjustment for him and he's just trying to figure out where he fits in. |
aww poor little guy is prob just scared. Everything is just so new to him he prob doesn't know which way to turn and what to do :) Do you have any pics of Bentley??? :) |
aw this sounds sooo heartbreaking!! i would not know what to do. sorry i am of no help.. my baby acted like id always had her when she got here for some reason!! |
He is probably so scared and lonely for his family. Maybe the pups remind hiim of his siblings? They are close to his size and maybe that's comforting to him. He will settle down once he realizes that it is okay. Can he play with the pups? Or are they still too small?:) |
I agree with the thought he needs some time to get used to you.............when we picked up Roscoe it was a 45min-an hour ride home where he wa wrapped in his blanket sitting in my GF's arms. I personally that time he was able to get our smells and adjust to our sounds.......when he was in the house he sniff around then we introduced his toys and he began playing (just a little) he was more interested in sniffing the ENTIRE house.........but we supervised and everytime he pee'd we ran him on his pad..........hope everything works out well |
It will take some time. He WILL potty in his crate because he is just a baby. He can't hold it and won't be able to for awhile. It will just take some time. I just did lots of wash when I was crate training one of mine and it will last awhile. Just give him extra attention. Some have a harder time moving to a new home so just give him all the love you can. If he is ok with the belly bands I'd let him wear them while running around if you want to prevent accidents. But yes...as far as the crate goes...there WILL be accidents. |
Be sure to hold him alot. We held Sammy so much for the first few days. There wasn't enough of him to go around. I held him the most and put a flannel nightgown of mine in his crate under his clean banky. The first night he peed all over but after that he would wake up a bit and give a whimper and I would get up and pee pad him. That's what we've been doing ever since and he's doing great. He was also comfined to a couple of rooms for exploring and in my arms for the rest of the house until I thought he was ready for a room at a time. He is mainly in family room, kitchen, laundry room with ppads, and our bedroom. He would get overwhelmed and pee everywhere if we went too fast. Just lots of time in mommys arms will help tremendously. Bless you as you all adjust sister. |
seems like he needs some time to adjust...when I first bought MeiLing home she didn't was quite scared of the new surrounding...she wasn't acting like she was at the breeder home...but after a day or 2 she was all over the place...going to an unfamiliar place is quite scary for a little puppy....so give it some time...and i wish you the best...please post pictures of your baby...hehe |
