to spay or not hey guys, wen i went to the vet last week, i realized that abby shud be gettin spayed in the next month :( . im really scared about this cuz the vet said she wud have to stay overnight n that she will b alone for a couple of hours. how do i no if its two hours or ten???!!! I'd rather have her home with me, but then again i think they can have experience in helping them recover better than i do. He never even said how long. im scared to do this wen she's so young tho cuz i've heard many stories where these babies die right after surgery. he said if i do it b4 her first heat, then those risks (cancer, all that stuff) are reduced by 98% n then he also said if i wait until after her first heat, the the risk goes to 92%. its not a big diff right? what do u think? oh god im scared. if i do it now, i wud prefer having it done for 4th of july weekend so i can b with her longer. have her spayed on the 2nd, n then i take her home the 3rd n stay with her until that monday. please help dont no wat to do.:confused: |
I personally would get her spayed as soon as possible. I have heard that if they go into heat their disposition will change & they can become more aggressive & if you get them spayed after that then it doesn't help their aggression at all. If you do get her spayed before her first time going into heat, then there's a really good chance that her disposition won't change. Ask your vet if it is at all possible to take her home with you after she has the procedure done. I know that some people here on YT have asked their vets if they could take their furbby home & monitor them themselves because they know their dog the best, & their vet agreed that they could take them home. It wouldn't hurt to ask & your vet might say yes, so it's worth a shot! :) Amy |
Roxie was scheduled to go in last Tuesday for spaying at the same time Pixie went in for dental. She went into heat the Saturday before. She just turned 8 months. The vet really wanted her spayed before she went into heat. Before she went into heat I called to tell them I also wanted her baby teeth pulled and microchipped and that I wanted to take her home that night. They called me back and said the vet said that if she was doing ok she would decide if it was safe to take her home and then I would have to sign a release. No problem. There is no way I would leave her at my vets overnight, No on is there all night, I am home and 7 minutes from the er vet. If she wasn't in shape to come home I was going to have her transferred to the 24 hour vet. Why would I leavve my dog somewhere where she is alone and no one to help her if she did have complications. I don't understand that policy. So when I reschedule I am going to talk to my vet directly and tell her Roxie will either come home that night or tranfer to ther 24 hour vet. JMO |
