I need help!
 

First, this is my 3rd post. I just want to say THANK YOU for all of your responses, feedback, and helpful advice. Now I need your expertise again...

I went and saw my breeder today (who was recommended as a closer option to the breeder I truly wanted). I walked in to their cabin and was surprised to see that the pups were not pups, but 6 month old dogs. They told me that is how long they hold on to their dogs. Is 6 months normal? I feel that I am missing out on the window of socialization and training.

I do have a one year golden. So, I am stuck. Do I get a puppy I can socialize myself and train them 'my way' or do I get a 6 month old puppy that is a good play size for Kayden?

One more question. He is 6 months old and his ears are not up. I have read that if you cut the hair it might free up some weight and they might go up. When I asked the breeder why the two darker pups's ears are down he said that it's genetic. Is that right?

I am full of questions, but really need help. This dog is going to be a buddy to me for 15 or so years and a companion to my Golden. My pets become my kids and I want to make sure my investment is truly what I am looking for. I would love some advice from the experts on here.

Now I'm not an expert sorry lol I can always learn more but from what i know the average age they leave to their homes is 3 months, some breeders do like to hold on to them longer to make sure they are going to the perfect home or if they are very tiny, or have some kind of special condition. As for the ears yes you can shave them cause sometimes the hair weighs them down and you can also tape them up to try to make them stand. Some may never stand, i have a male and his are down, but i do not know if it is genetic or not. Good luck!:)

Why would anyone keep the puppies until they are 6 months old to sell?? Unless they are trying to determine if the pups are show quality or breeder quality or not. And a show breeder would already have the ears up at 6 months of age. Sounds kinda fishy!!! I think I would get one from a different breeder if these pups are not what you are looking for.
