Potty Question! My yorkie can't seem to get potty trained.. I thought I had a hold on it when he was 6 months until he was neutered and then it all went down hill. He is a year and a half now.. He can hold his pee all day in a kennel.. but when he is out he just trinkles.. If I don't take him out atleat once an hour or two.. he pees inside.. I will find a trail of drips going across the room and it is his pee.. He knows he did wrong because when I find it he runs and hides. I am worried about him because a friend mentioned diabetes.. his urine is also not yellow at all.. it's like water. But, then I think that he can hold his pee for hours in the kennel when I am at work or school.. Is he just being a brat or should I worry? |
Invest in some belly bands, hopefully he will hate them just enough to stop tinkling! Good Luck! |
Belly bands will save your floor, but I would ask the vet just to be sure he doesn't have something else going on. If he doesn't have a urinary tract infection it could be incontinence caused by the neuter. In that case I would just keep him in belly bands when he's inside. You probably already ruled this out, but the thought occurred to me - if his pee is not yellow but rather clear - like water... Are you sure it is NOT water? Maybe he drank water and dripped from his chin across the floor? :rolleyes: That would be a nice answer, hmmm? :animal36 I think he urine should be yellow. |
Loki's pee is clear and he has to go outside often (every 45 mins-2 hours) when he is out running around and he can hold it for 4-5 in his crate or even when we are not home. The reason they can hold it when they are in their crates is that they are usually sleeping. You should go get him checked out at the vet because we finally discovered Loki has diabetes insipidus. There are medicines that can help. I say that especially since you mentioned that he knows he needs to go outside. He is probably truly having accidents because his bladder is full and he can't hold it any more. Loki rarely has an accident now, but when he did it was what you describe. Also, try bell training him so that he can let you know immediately when he needs to go out! That helped big time here! |
