Accidents after Spay?
 
Is it common for potty/pee accidents to increase after getting spayed? I got my lil girl spayed on Monday (6 days ago) and ive noticed an increase in the amount of accidents around the house that past 3-4 days. Granted, she wasnt completely trained before (she'd have accident free days and then maybe a day with one accident at most but we were close to 100%). Is she acting out because of her spay? She doesnt seem to be in pain or anything and is back to her normal self. Could it be because for the last 6 days we havent gone on a proper walk? Ive just been taking her in the backyard to avoid her jumping up and going crazy when seeing other dogs/people. Any insight would be appreciated.

Perhaps she has urinary tract infection?

I'll ask when we go back tomorrow. However, the number or times she "goes" hasn't changed, just the place (inside now vs outside)

Unfortunately, early spay can increase the chances of urinary incontinence and it is common in spayed female dogs, which can occur soon after spay surgery or after a delay of up to several years. Hopefully, this is just a temporary issue but I have read from others that their females did start having problems with incontinence after having them spayed.

but shes already 6 months and was advised it was the appropriate time (before her first heat)... :-/ I will definitely ask about a UTI though to be on the safe side even though the frequency has not increased . is there a test they run for UTIs? thanks!

same thing happened to Teddy. he was having more accients and he was acting out like nothing I've ever seen.. however his accidents have basically stopped(he has I'm excited accidents still) and his behavior has calmed down dramatically these past 3 days he's been an angel!

She's probably just feeling uncomfortable & a bit irritated down below & mistakes the sensation for needing to wee. It's very soon after her op & she must still be sore.

The bitches of mine that were spayed never suffered from incontinence, they were fine after they'd healed & had stitches out.

yeah thats how I think teddy felt but we took off his cone serveral times.. when we were outisde with him so he could go potty easier.. he loved it he became more energized and played but would put it back on once we got inside.

I say it's discomfort. We still gave teddy meds the first few days mainly at night to help him out and if he was too hyper we worries so we could give him one.

kinnys was spayed nearly 3 weeks ag and we have had 3 "accidents " so far. before the op she was fully house trained, we hav nt had one in nearly a week soim hoping things are just settling back down.

Urinary incontience is often a side effect of the spay. It can be temperory or permanent. Unfortunately vet forget to tell owners about this
