yorkie coats and beach sand Hi all, I thought I read on here somewhere that after spending a day at the beach, it's really difficult to get the sand out of the yorkie coat. We've made plans to spend a few days at the beach this summer and I was wondering if this is really true? I would think that a good shampooing would get it all out. Anybody have experience with this? |
I recently took my dogs to the beach and I hardly had to do ANYTHING to get the sand out. Most of it came out when he shook a couple times. The rest came out when I brushed him. No bath was necessary. I think Epsilon has more of a silky coat, I don't know if this would still be the case if he had a cottony coat. |
i always do a quick bath after a beach day. i fear sand fleas. |
oh it stays in for a good while... I'd just rinse it out daily (making sure to get in between the paw pads) and then when you get back give a GOOD wash. Layla has a cotton coat so it is REALLY hard to get it out but we manage. It is best when they are dry to give a good brushing to get all out that you can for that day. Have fun and POST pictures! |
We took Miss Tinky out to the beach last summer. We spent the night on the beach in a tent. If I'd have known how much she was going to roll around in the sand and try to get every BIT of the beach into her coat, I'd have brought some fresh water with me to rinse her off from time to time! :) But once we got home a long bath did the trick. I wonder if baby powder would help, it works well on skin; sand comes off easily. I thought maybe sprinkling some on his coat and then brushing. Way back when, it was to recommend for human use between shampoos, not a great idea, but it might help get sand out, since it absorbs water. |
