Hi everyone :) This is my firts post and i would like to introduce myself. I am Maris, live in southern California and am looking to own a yorkie of my own. I have done the research, read up on the breed and have starting contacting breeders. I would just like to hear from those of you that already own yorkies. What advice would you give to someone like me? What do you wish you would have know before obtaining a yorkie? And anything you think will be helpful for me to know. Thank you |
hello Hi maris welcome to yorkie talk This is a very informative site.I have a 4and a half month old yorkie called prudence.you have to have a lot of time to spend with your yorkie and they give you soooo much love back. They can be very full on and they can get into everything so you really do have to puppy proof your house. :) dianne :) |
Hello and welcome to YT! I just got my first yorkie and Toby is almost 4! He is a rescued puppymill dog and I'm here looking for adivce too! |
The number one thing I didn't realize before getting a yorkie is how addicted I would become to the breed. Be forwarned! They are addicting!!!! Adorable little breed. |
Hello and Welcome to Yorkietalk! Good luck with your puppy search! :) |
Welcome maris! The Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) thread is a good start: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6016 And anytime you have any questions, please feel free to search on YorkieTalk or ask away! You will find a lot of helpful information and friendly members! :) |
I have to agree that these little dogs are addicting. They are like love in a bottle! Or as I have heard it said before "you CAN buy love" with a Yorkie. They do need lots of attention. They don't do well left alone for long periods of time. My Yorkies follow me wherever I go in the house, they become your shadow. It doesn't even matter if they are sound asleep, if I get up to go get laundry out of the dryer, etc...they are right there behind me. Also, don't expect your Yorkie to love everyone like they love you. They tend to pick someone ("the mommy") they prefer, although they like everyone in the family, there's usually that someone special. One of my Yorkies is very leery of strangers and won't allow them to pet her, so be aware. Although my little boy is very friendly and seems to like anybody! Good luck in your search! |
Welcome to Yt! I am sure that in no time you will have your new baby. You can get lots of valuable information here. This forum is addicting! |
Hi and welcome! I would just say to be patient. It can be a long process finding your yorkie, but it's going to be well worth it! Don't get a yorkie until you know that you feel 100% comfortable with the yorkie and the breeder- you'll be much happier. You have 10-15 years ahead of you with your new baby so make sure that it's the perfect fit! You'll love being here, and will learn so much. |
