Yorkie's and Cats Hi Everyone :) I have a question for any or all of you who have cats in your house along with your yorkie. I am curious to find out how the cat or cats accepted your yorkie, or if they have accepted your yorkie. My cat and yorkie are constantly in a power struggle and I am wondering if this is going to be forever, or if there is something I can do to get them to at the very least, accept each other. I am also curious to hear your yorkie verses cat stories! Thanks, Annie and Tinkie :) |
i left my cat at my moms house when i moved out (cats dont do well relocating) and after i lost my golden retriever my cat was my main cuddle buddy, when i got toby she was PISSED!!! She saw his presence as a threat to her new "first place" position in my llife...... well, i ALWAYS take toby with me to my moms house and it only took my cat a couple weeks to actually go up and sniff (and rub her head against him..lol... :p ) so they get along, but keep in mind that my yorkie is 4 months old and my cat is 9 or 10 ...... my cat doesnt really take nicely to a yorkie baby STANDING on her, so she sometimes swats or hisses at him when she has had enough.... but she would never actually hurt him....... |
I am so glad to hear that your prince and princess are getting along! Gives me hope :-) Yesterday, Kitty and Tinkie were rolling around on the floor with the cat wrapped around Tinkie...it scared me to death! I can't tell if they are playing or if Kitty is trying to bite Tinkie. I guess if he wanted to bite her he would have done it a long time ago. He has brought home rabbits bigger than her, so that is my concern. I try to keep them seperated, but the cat will jump over the gate and will get into it with Tinkie on purpose. So possibly he wants to play with her, of maybe he is looking for a fight? It is nice to hear though that your darlins do get along, so maybe there is hope! Thanks for your post :-) Annie and Tinkie |
Demi and Tabby Our cat, Tabby is the sweetest cat I have ever met. She is actually my roommate's cat and her temperament changed when I broght Demi home. Actually, she has changed for the better because she was a little on the LOUD side before. She would meow all the time and it was quite annoying. Demi just loves Tabby though and I think that Tabby is starting to like Demi. My mom just told me that you have to remember that cats play by swatting things and that is what she does to Demi, but it never actually hurts her. They play all the time though!!! |
My cat Lacey is content with P.J. She has that laid back personality. But she should by now. We have been a "pit stop" for all sorts of animals who needed a home. They have all been placed in good homes now. When we brought P.J. home she probably was thinking oh well here's another one. He will be gone in a little bit. Needless does she know - P.J. is here to stay. :) |

That was too cute. I will post some pics of P.J. once my hubby figures it out for me. So far when I have tried to post attachments, the files have been too large. He knows how to correct that for me. Thanks again. |
I have 2 cats and they get along with my boy wonderfully! It took a while for my oldest, Penny, to take to the boys when I first got them. I had just lost her buddy, my Yorkie, Jake, who she adored. She wasn't thrilled because to her they weren't Jake. But after a while, about 3 weeks, she started to come around and now everyone just plays with each other. I just love to watch them all play...Theresa |
go to photobucket .com its real easy tell me if you need help with it :D |
My cat had to contend with two other pups who both quickly outgrew him before Luca Dean, my yorkie came home. Fred, the cat, sometimes follows Luca Dean around wanting to play, but Luca Dean is still pretty afraid of him. Fred has always remained inside, so he's been declawed in the front and can't hurt my pup. The cat wrestles with my other two sometimes and is sometimes the instigator and sometimes the one being chased -- just depends on his mood. From all my kitty-pup experience in the past 5 years, if you bring the dog in when they are pups, the cat warms up to him. If the cat is seeking him out, he probably wants to play or at least sniff the new family member. |
We have to cats in the home one is 11 and the other 5. We got our first Yorkie in May of 2004 and our female in July of 2004. They did not mind the cats.. our cats would just look at them and hiss if they got to close. Well now any time the see the cats... our boy Teddy.. starts barking and yelping like a coondog.. and runs after them and "trees" them so to speak.. they get out of his reach. We can call Kitty Kitty and he starts barking.. he really hates the cats. If we pick them up.. he jumps and tries to bit them. I dont know why he dislikes them.. maybe it is because at night .. they run and our Yorkies sleep in a cage. He has now got our girl Sadie starting it now also. lol I hope they dont pass it on to there little ones... we are expecting any day now! I cant wait!!!!!! First litter!! |
