I JUST saw this - I would call the vet asap and tell them - if they're NOT open call a 24 hour vet - this could be very serious - I don't have experience with it ....but I would be either AT the vet or calling one fast - Good LUCK ! |
Mia ate one, too, and the vet told me just to watch her and wait. She was fine. But she is 5+ lbs and it was a TINY amount. Not sure how big your baby is. |

Silica Gel Packets Briefly Sicken Pets Be warned that the silica gel packets found in shoeboxes and medicine pill bottles may cause gastrointestinal problems for pets. Some symptoms found shortly right after ingesting the gel are nausea, vomiting and lack of appetite. While the silica gel is not fatal and the effects are mild, pet owners should be aware and dispose of these packets properly. Pet Product News December 2001 http://www.purrfect-pals.com/petprod...0Sicken%20Pets I found this and hope it helps. Sorry about your little one. |
I would think that silca gel would absorbed the fluid in his stomach, because that is what it does, absorb water.. Have you ever put it in a cup of water??.. I would keep an eye on him and call the vet, just to be safe.. How much do you think he ate?? |
I'm a Pediatric nurse, and we get calls all the time about little kids eating those silica packets-I know they are non-toxic for kids, and we just tell parents it will pass through the stool-no problem unless they aspirated them. I didn't know they could be a problem for dogs! Good to know. Maybe if it's just a little it will be like people....? |
I will call your vet. Is best to be safe. The vet might tell you to keep an eye on your baby or maybe take him in. Please keep us posted. I hope Mojito is ok. |
ASPCA poison control # Hey I found an ASPCA poison center number that is manned 24 hours Only problem is it says they may charge $50.00 consult fee! That stinks....this should be a free service-the human poison control is! Anyway, here is the number: (888) 426-4435. |
thank you everyone! thank you all so much for your responses! well, i put a call in to the vet about 30 min after it happened -- he seemed fine the whole time. we fed him and went out. he actually pooped outside (he rarely goes outside!) and it was very soft. the vet called and said to just watch him but he's been totally fine (other than the diarrhea that one time) so we're just keeping any eye on him... you all are so great to have responded so quickly. we really appreciate it! mojito & irmi |
my cousin when she was 1 shes ate a couple of packs and she was fine just keep an eye on him :D |
I think you can actually call the regular poison control number, that's free. Just see what they say to be sure. |
