Cougar! Ok yesterday I was driving (I have my learners) home in the dark with my mom and my sister and all of a sudden a cougar bolted across the highway right in front of me! I didn't even have time to hit the brakes. fortunatly it was fast! at first we thought it might have been a deer but its limbs were much thicker and cougars have a very distinctive gait. But now I am afraid to have my akita / black lab out of sight, let alone my little koda! I am SO WORRIED! P.S We did report it of course, as it was right beside a sheep/cattle farm. |
I am so afraid of cougars. We had a sighting on my road a few years ago. Where in BC are you? |

We have them around here, especially in NE KS. Wildlife and Game deny it. Don't know what is with that. Farmers have even seen babies with their mommies. On the edge of town where we live, our major threat is foxes and hawks. |
the cougar that was around our house went to near chicago and they killed it. |
You could always do the three S's. Shoot... Shovel... Shut up. :D |
You girls/guys are not alone, last night i took the Brats for a walk after dinner and neighbor told me to be careful as he seen a big cougar walking around, couple of the guys where trying to figure out where he /she went as everyone was concerned about their Pets/ Livestock, needless to say we didn waist any time to get home... That was not the first time, we are aware of them, and county wont do anything about them, and pretty much tell you :do what you have to do and dont say anything... We got other wildlife too coyotes and such, but least they are pretty much afraid of humans, but cougars are not, not very comforting knowing my brats going to want to go for their walks.... personaly i am sick of wildlife... |

I do not agree.Wildlife has a right . We have taken their land and hunting grounds which sends them father into the heavily populated areas.(our fault). We have had bears here lately and they are usually 8 hours north very unusual. We have left them and they are still here a momma and 2 cubs. Needless to say my yorkies do not go out without me or they are let loose in their pen with me outside. They should be sedated and relocated if they have made a kill on domestic animals. WE have lots of coyotes hawks and eagles here also.It is frighful to see something we are not use to but reporting to the DNR what we see and find will usually take care of it. |

Things running around in the dark...that is why Kacee never goes out in the dark without me. I trained her to use pads in the garage (as I did with Muffin) for that reason and bad weather.:) |

But I'd do it in a heartbeat to protect my dogs. |

And by the way, my Babies have never been off leash out here and with me on the other end of the retractables, and Rosi is 3 and Apollo is 2. |

SOmetimes they do not do anything till they have made a kill. And if they find out who shoots them will have a HEFTY or a worse penalty. I do not want my dogs eaten or killed by a eagle bear or whatever that is why mine do not go out unsupervised and off a leash. The DNR has been watching the momma bear and cubs here well but they cannot stop them from killing they cannot be watched 24/7 so I do understand but do not agree shooting them. |
Cougars are scary! I would definitly report your sighting. We had one roaming around here a couple months ago, finally the Chicago police dept. killed it. My first fear was my babies as well, but they will go after humans, so be careful! |
