APRI to AKC? Did everyone know that AKC will consider switching your APRI dog to AKC if the mom, dad, grandma or grandpa is AKC? I was shocked but I called them myself! |
Only if both parents are registered and both had full breeding rights. Sometimes parents, grandparents, etc. are registered with the AKC, but one or both of the puppies parents were sold with limited registration. Some unethical breeders go ahead and breed them anyway, and register them with an alternative registry, and tell customers that they can be registered with the AKC since all relatives are registered, but this is not true if they were originally sold with limited registration. Many AKC breeders are spaying puppies before they leave the premises so this won't happen. |
Really? thats not what the lady at AKC told me but its 30.00 to apply so maybe thats why she was very vague. I had heard the rumor and didnt believe it. I only have AKC but Ive seen lots of cute APRI doggies :) |

What did the lady at the AKC tell you? |
She said that there is a very good chance to switch to AKC if the mom, dad, or grandparents are AKC..she put no stipulations on anything. |

Well, who knows who is answering the phone, but it's possible there was some misunderstanding. Both parents have to be registered with full breeding rights. If this is the case, the puppy can be registered, if not, the puppy can't be registered. |
Well thats good to know..Thanks for clearing that up..U should be answering the AKC phones! :D:thumbup: |
Doesn't the Breeder need to be in good standing too? Unless DNA of parents is on file? |
They probably don't want to turn away anyone who is actually is eligible so they are cautious in their replies. Many people who are eligible don't register their dogs because they say "they aren't breeding or showing anyway" but I always urge people to register their dogs with the AKC, if they are indeed eligible, because I believe it is a good organization; and it's the only registry that does dog kennel inspections. |
Here is another rumor that I heard from an exhibitor 2 days ago about AKC. Please say it isnt so!!!!!!!!!!! If a breeder sells an AKC puppy with out papers, the person that bought the puppy can still register it with AKC as long as they have a pedigree of the puppy. I about fell on the floor when I heard that. Hopefully AKC isnt that hard up yet!!!!!!!!!!! |

AKC Launches Purebred Alternative Listing Program WHAT ABOUT THIS???AKC Launches Purebred Alternative Listing Program Print This Article [Friday, February 01, 2008] -- New Features Offer Additional Benefits and Incentives -- The American Kennel ClubŪ today launched the Purebred Alternative Listing (PAL) program - formerly known as the Indefinite Listing Privilege (ILP) program. The new name more accurately describes the purpose of the program: allowing dogs that are ineligible for registration but are distinguishable as a member of an AKC-registrable breed, to participate in AKC Companion Events, AKC Performance Events and AKC Juniors competition. The PAL program is designed to address the various reasons a purebred dog might not be eligible for registration: the dog may be from an unregistered litter or have unregistered parents; papers may have been withheld or lost by its owner; or the dog may have been surrendered, lost or abandoned, then adopted by a new owner. PAL enrollees will receive a copy of Family Dog Magazine, a subscription to AKC's e-newsletter "Your AKC," a flier from the breed's Parent Club and an attractive certificate denoting their dog's place in the PAL program. Also included will be information on AKC Pet Healthcare and AKC Companion Animal Recovery enrollment. "We currently enroll over 3,000 dogs per year in the program. It is our hope that we can expand this number and the overall appeal of the program by offering added benefits and renaming the program with this more creative and friendly acronym," said Assistant Vice President of Customer Service, Mari Beth O'Neill. "Welcoming more PAL dogs to the world of AKC events and privileges can only benefit both dogs and owners by providing educational resources and also exposing them to the joys of competing with your dog." Dogs which currently have ILP numbers will retain their original numbers and continue to enter events under that number. PAL numbers will be issued beginning today. More information about ILP/PAL. The Pedigree is just a paper with the puppy's family tree. It lists parent, grandparents, great grandparents, and so on, with champions listed in red. Some breeders don't even have it themselves, but you can still get it from the AKC. Years ago, you could just look at a dog, and know it was purebred, and since AKC was the only registry, I suppose some people didn't bother with the pedigree papers. I personally wouldn't get a puppy that was not AKC, and it's the first step in selecting a good breeder, but hardly the only step. |

I am just wondering how do you prove that your dog's parents are AKC registered? If let's say the breeder / seller is not reacheable? Just curious. I think that when AKC ever drops it's registry standards...it will all go to the dogs:D |
