Puppies and Groomers My yorkie will be 12 weeks tomorrow. I've had her since she was 9 weeks (and I have since learned that was a bit too young, but I digress). She's still waiting on her last round of shots because she developed Kennel cough and is currently on Clavamox(a couple of more days and she's done). My vet recommended waiting for the shots since she's so young and didn't want to stress her with it. But her nails are getting long! She keeps getting caught in pillows, blankets, any type of fabric. I'm too scared to trim them myself but I'm also concerned about taking her to a groomer so early especially not having had all of her shots. Is it ok to just get her nails trimmed for the time being? And how soon can I take her to get the full shabang? Her ears need to be trimmed too. I feel like they should be standing up on their own by now. |

No, I didn't even think to ask my vet! She has a checkup coming up soon. I'll inquire then. Thanks! :) |

no problem, they shud do it |

my vet charges like 7 bucks to trim nails. Most vets do little stuff like that for fairly cheap:) |

My vet also charged $7 to trim the nails. |

My vet trims Abbey's nails at every visit without even asking me...she just does it and does not charge me for it!!! It's a lifesaver bc man, those nails can hurt I only wish they could do something about her SHARP teeth... |

That's great that your vet does not charge. I didn't even know they would charge until I stepped to the front desk and picked up the bill. |

I started trimming them myself because the last time my vet did it the girl was sooo rude! she threw Duke back at me because he wouldn't sit still for her. The first time I ever cut his nails I made one bleed, it scared him and I both to where I never did it again but after that girl, I refused to let them touch him again. |

since your baby is so small, you can use human toe nail clippers to get the very end (the sharpest part) off until you get the nail clipped. It will keep them from hanging in the carpet. It is not hard to do the nails yourself, have the vet show you how, and get your self some of the syptic (sp?) powder or gel just in case you go to far on one. You just hold the powder in place or gel with a cotton ball until the bleeding stops. Good Luck!! |
