The Horror!!! Ok so I'm admitting to a phobia here, and phobia is truly what is is. I am absolutely terrified , screaming, can't breath, run like the wind when I see anything without legs...snakes, worms, leeches and slugs. I know they can't hurt you but hey it's a phobia... So yesterday morning I took Ozzy for a walk down our right of way. It had rained Saturday and Sunday was sunny and warm. SO we are walking down the road and I see the slugs  have crawled out from the woods onto the road. Ok ok so I just walk along slowly watching my feet so i don't step on one. (I had Birkenstocks on!!!!!) Well Ozzy has a bad habit of picking up everything in his mouth.....yeah you can see it coming like a freight train... Well I look over at him and he has something in his mouth...I start to panic and yell drop it..and it's a SLUG!!!!!!! IT GOT STUCK ON HIS FACE HAIR!!! Ok I'm screaming now and Ozzy is terrified and has no idea why Mom is freaking out. So I'm screaming and just about crying and using the leash to try and whip this thing off my Babie's face. Finally it falls off and a grab him up and run home screaming hysterically. My poor husband comes running out thinking the dog was hit by a car and when he found out it was that a slug got stuck on him he was so mad! Well I'm sorry but that was the most disgusting thing I have ever seen in my life. My poor Baby! Anyway it was horrible. I had to wash it face and make sure the slug juice was off of him. Jeesh I still don't think I'm over it. I wish I wasn't afraid of them but I can't help it so now we can't walk on that road in the morning anymore. So that was how my peaceful Sunday started!!! |
lol well glad all turned out ok for ya!!! |
I am so very sorry for you. To anyone who doesn't have that heart-stopping fear, it is hard to understand. I hope that you can start working on taming this phobia...... so that Ozzy doesn't feed on your emotions and become a nervous wreck. I fear rodents (of all kinds including mice, rats, bunnies and squirrels) and roaches.... |
sorry, but you just cracked me up.all i could think about was your poor husband not knowing what happend and then u tell him it was a slug... i hear him screaming now...im glad everything is ok though.. |
I feel the same way about things WITH legs Grasshoppers or praying mantis are the worst. I run away like I am going to be murdered. Your story cracked me up! |
Oh how I hate slugs! That's why I don't eat mushrooms they remind me of slugs. Sorry guys for those of you who do like mushrooms. I can imagine how tramitizing that was for you. Glad things worked out in the end. See you can do it. Just think how big you are and how small and slimmy they are. |
Thanks Chattiesmom, I really don't want to be afraid of them it's stupid I know, but jeesh I can't get past it. I tried to touch a snake once but I physically could not make myself do it. It is a major flight reflex! I felt bad for my poor husband for sure! It's pretty funny looking back on it. I have no problem with rats, mice, spiders etc..just those gross wiggly things. I can only imagine if some one was watching what they thought! |
Hahahaha! Sorry, but the way you told the story made me laugh out loud. Poor Ozzie (and hubby)!!! Imagining you whipping the thing off his face with his leash was what really did it for me. :D How long did it take for your husband to talk to you again??! :p |
I actually was kind of proud of myself because I saved my Baby (;)) from those things. The maternal instinct over rode the flight urge :D Thank God Oz isn't the nervous type, he was over it by the time we got home:) Mommy could learn alot from him. (Hubby knew better than to stay mad at me..he knows how badly I hate those things. He calls it the great Slug attack of 2008 now...funny guy..) |
LOL! I have a horrible fear of roaches! We went to Jamaica last week and there was a coke bottle opener attached to the wall by the refrigerator. I thought it was neat and stuck my fingers under it. When I did, a roach came wiggling out from under my fingers and ran across the wall. I screamed and screamed, stopped and screamed some more. Hotel maintainance came to my room to make sure everything was okay. I felt like such a "princess" when I told him it was a roach :embarasse So I feel your pain. |
I hear ya... worms gross me out to no end. If my babies picked up a worm Id have a hard time taking it out of their mouths myself. :( BBLLEECCCHH!! |
So glad it turned out okay. From Boobah,Gina and Gelise |
I have aracniphobia (sp?) or fear of spiders. the smallest one will freak me out. but then say I see a wolf spider (ugg!) which are about 1 - 2 inches long, well then that is enough to send me running and screaming. everyone keeps telling me "oh they are so small they are not going to hurt you!" yeah right! the scene in the first spider man movie where peter gets bitten almost made me puke! |
Although I don't have a fear of slugs (just disgust of them and escargo), I do have a phobia of June Bugs. I have to get into the house as soon as I see the first one or I literally freeze on the spot. My son had to come out of the house a few years ago to help me go inside when the June Bugs caught me off guard while I was gardening and not watching out for them. If one ever lands in my hair... I swear I will have to be put in an asylum. :( I'm so glad all turned out well and that the slug is out of your baby's hair. :) |
I found a snake in my bedroom a few weeks back so I feel your pain. It was right by Lexie's crate that she was in and I still ran like a little girl. Apparently I don't have enough of the motherly instinct :( |
Oh no Kimberly don't say that. I bet your a great Mommy. I was outside and not in a confined space. I have no idea what I would have done if I found a snake in my BEDROOM!!! I would probably have run, never returned and told my husband we'd have to move  |
OMG I'm cracking up reading this LOLOL I'm so sorry, but this is funny. Ohh I can just imagine this picture LOLOL |
I did have a really hard time sleeping that night. I kept feeling things slither on me. Ugh...I hate this rental house. Well only 2 months until I move into my brand new house. We just have to wait until it's finished being built and then we're out of here. Hopefully there are no more snakes in my future. Thanks for the reassurance that I'm not a bad mommy:) |
Lol ... This Is Funny ... I Mean Not For You ... But The Way You Wrote It Made Me Laugh .... ;) |
Awe, I'm so sorry you had to go through that. ANy chance that you'd touch something like that with a glove on? This way you could still go on your morning walks with your furbaby and just carry a glove with you to use if need be. |
Oh it is way to funny now that I think back about it.... Beabble maybe if I had one of those fake arms they test the dog's with for food agression.... and that had a glove on it..then I'd consider it!!!!:D :yelrotflm I wonder where you can get those things?? Can you see me walking with a fake arm with a glove on it...........!!!!!!!!! |

...or one of those things with a claw hand on the end that they use to get groceries from the top shelf?? :) Slugs melt when you put salt on them. How about taking a huge salt shaker with you on your walks? I'm not trying to be mean, believe me, I have the same irrational fear of snakes. |
OMG they foam when you put salt on them..I've done it when one was on my stoop and it was huge and I was afraid it would crawl in the house! (yep I sound completely wacko... but i'm really not!!!) I think poor Ozzy will think his Mommy is nutso. He'll have this big claw thing coming at him to pick slugs off of him..or getting a shower of salt poured on him..poor Baby..:lol tears |
The Horror I know how you feel but wish someone had a video of you:D, they could make some money. My phobias are snakes and spiders. A few years ago when the hurricanes were so bad, got up in the middle of the night to get a drink of water, lights out, stepped on something:eek::eek: knew exactly what it was and have never touched one in my life, jumped 2 feet to turn on the lights and it was a 6ft, yellow, orange and red "SNAKE". :eek:SCREAMING, DH comes running and finds a board in the garage and beat it to death. Have lived in FL most of my life but never had a snake in the house, it turned out to be a corn snake. When I see a spider and do what you did, just go running and screaming, could tell so many stories about "them" but don't want to bore anyone. ;) |
