Bindi is getting spayed tomorrow. :-? nervous wreck Im beyond concerned as you can imagine. what are some things I need to make sure i do to ensure a healthy and speedy recovery?? do i need to buy anything special?? |
Aw, Good luck to her. I know she'll be fine. I'd buy her a pack of onesies so that she doesn't mess with her stitches. They are so much more comfortable than the e-collar. |

Zoey was spayed last friday and did very well. I didn't put anything on her and the one time I saw her look at the stitches I told her no and she hasn't bothered them since. Good luck on her spay. Sending tons of prayers your way for a successful surgery and speedy recovery. |
onesies are wonderful. She will be VERY sleepy when she comes home and that collar thing would just make her uncomfortable. The oneies can be worn all day and night. When Layla was spayed she was 3 lbs and i bought premie onesies and they fit very well. I didn't cut a hole in them.. just stuck her tail through the snaps and undid it when she had to go out. Layla was VERY out of it when she came home and needed help standing when she had to pee. If your pup does't come home with pain meds (Layla didnt) be very careful when you lift her up. I'd buy or go to a pharmacy and ask for an eye dropper so you can give her water. Good luck. we are here if you have any questions :) |
I remember all to well when my little one was spade - I took a few days off of work to be with her and make sure she was recovering okay. They used glue instead of stitches on the outside of the skin. No need for a collar or wrap. I think I was really lucky that she just left the area alone. I made sure I had extra treats on hand to give her with her meds to be sure she had something in her tummy. One of my biggest concerns was keeping her from jumping or trying to jump on things (she could not jump up on the couch yet). Good luck and you are in my thoughts. |
Hey Vaishali! Aww poor Bindi! She'll do fine! I agree with Kyle and Marci, onsies are great! That e-collar is horrible! I picked him up at 4:15ish and waited till 5:30 to offer him water and then food 30 minutes later. He ate a good amount that night. He was very tired! Our vet gave me 2 medicines. One I gave twice a day for 4 days and the other I gave twice a day for 7 days. But, he got his declaws removed, so you might not get those. Is she getting any teeth removed? Meeko and I will be thinking about her tomorrow. He misses her a lot!!! ;) Call me if you wanna talk! Let me know when you hear from the vet! |
both my girls had their surgery on thursday.......... I can totally understand how you must feel....... and to be upfront, the first two days are the hardest because she will be so vulnerable... and it will probably break your heart to see her be so out of it. But her personality and spirit will help her and you get through this time. |
Good luck, Bindi!! I'll be thinking of you! (hug) |
thanks everyone i went and got some onesies. im just so scared and sad for her bc she has no idea its coming and i dont want her to feel like where did mommy leave me? is she coming back? who are these people? ive basically been smothering her with kisses all day today and playing tons. i know im brining home pain meds so i guess thats good. thanks again for all the well wishes and prayers. its so nerve racking (sp?) isnt it? yeesh this cannot be over fast enough!! |

Awww...I know how you feel. I was crying when I dropped Betty off  It will be fine. My Vet does not give them pain meds to take at home...and they were fine the next day. Let us know how things go. I will say a little prayer for Bindi. |
Please give us an update!!! |
well shes doing great :) i went and picked her up yesterday about 530. she was totally out of it. and quite frankly, i think she was mad at me lol. she was so excited to see daddy but gave me (mommy who left her there) a quick kiss or two and a dirty look lol. but today shes back to her normal self its hard trying to keep her calm and stop jumping. thanks for asking!!! |
Glad to hear Bindi is feeling better. It's a tough feel responsible for our little one's pain. Kind of like having our skin child vaccinated. |
I'm glad Bindi did so well. :) |
So glad to hear Bindi is recovering so well. My heart was breaking for you reading how scared ad nervous you were. Lil Miss May will be going in soon to be spayed as well and I know I'll feel just like you did. Were you able to hold the tears in till you got back in your car? I know this is going to be so hard for me as well. |
omg it was sooo hard because as we pulled up she knew exactly where we were and started crying very loudly and gave me this betrayed look. :( :( omg it was horrible she was trying to escape the whole time. and when the nurse took her away i was a wreck but still trying to sound happy and high pitched. i gave her a toy w. my scent on it to keep with her thru the day so she knew i was coming back. now im just having a tough time keep her down all she wants to do is play. but best of luck to you shell do fine!!!! i think we get more bothered than they do |
I'm glad Bindi is back to her hyper, loving little self! Did she get any teeth pulled yesterday? Hope she's eating well and heals fast! You can put a little neosporin on her stitches when they start to close up. I did it with Meeko and I think it helped. Did she sleep in your bed last night? |

Yes, she had 3 teeth pulled which i got to keep since i have NONE. they were crazy long. i dont think they would have fallen out on their own. oh i didnt know about the neosporin. I think ill do that. how many days after did you start it? no she didnt sleep in my bed yesterday. we had a slumber party on the floor with 4 comforters (layered so the floor would be cushy) on the floor 2 dog beds and a dog house. i had her blankies all over so she could get comfy where ever she wanted to. we also watched a movie. well she slept thru it. it was a girls nite but i kept a close eye on her thruout the nite. ill probably do it for a few more days. i must admit its a lil fun sleeping like this. reminds me when i was younger and had parties like this. *sighs* |
Good luck, im sure she will be fine! :) Buy some preemie onesies |
I'm glad to hear that Bindi did well with her spay surgery. My Lexie is being spayed on Monday (the 9th). She is going on 2 years old, had one litter of pups last year, but we decided that since she was "over standard size", we would have her spayed now. I love our vet(s) and am sure she will do fine.....but some well wishes and prayers never hurt. I always hate leaving them too.:( |
