Daphne and Trixie are both gorgeous! Welcome to YT! It's wonderful that they are getting along so well. It is hard to make that adjustment to sharing with a new sissy, but great to have someone to play with! Let's mom relax and enjoy watching them play, too. |

*~Newbie~* Hey Jennie! |
Welcome to YT, I hope you will find yourself among friends! We all love our furbabies here. Wecome again |
Hello from a New Yorkie Mom Hi all, yes that is a pun because I am from NY as well as being a new yorkie mom. I adopted Teddy last Saturday from a rescue group that had an adoption event on Manhattan's upper west side. He was given up by a family in the Bronx on 9/28 who never walked him and left his leash tied to a doorknob all day while they were at work. The only fresh air he got in 5 years of his life was on their terrace. Despite this he is an affectionate little guy who went nuts the first time he smelled Long Island air! We took him straight to the pet food store on the way home from the adoption event and bought him food and toys. Everyone in the store fell in love with him. He had a nice temperament. He has an appointment with the groomer on Sat morning, and will be neutered next Tuesday. I could not believe that this family had him for 5 years and never had him neutered. I am glad that I don't know who they are or they would be sorry. I am teaching him to walk on a leash without pulling me and he is learning pretty quickly. I am buying books and getting training videos to help me along the way. He already knows sit, stay and come here, and his manners are good. He sits under the table during dinner and doesnt even beg for food, but we do feed him before we eat. We also leave a small bowl of special Yorkie kibble for him to nibble on during the day. I've had cats for 36 years and this is my first dog. I noticed that he behaves alot like a cat...and I know they were bred as ratters. The cutest thing he's done so far was to pick the mouse out of the bin of cat toys and proceed to tear off its ear. I was astonished that he knew which toy was the mouse. It was so cute to see him shake it first and then finish the kill. Teddy has a lot of toys and we play with him all night after dinner. After a good toy shaking he likes to sit next to me, put his head down and cat nap. We go to bed at 10 o'clock and he is happy to go to his little bed. We have cats so we are confining Teddy to a separate room with all his "stuff" until he gets neutered...because if he sees one of the cats now he barks and wants to chase it. He does come back to me when I call him and leaves the cat alone....which is a good sign. We have a bit of training to do with little Teddy but I am looking forward to doing it...and seeing what a wonderful pet he becomes in the process. He is forcing me to become even more patient than I usually am, so are really teaching something to each other. I look forward to chatting with all of you and asking questions of the more experienced Yorkie owners. - Judy |
