when? when can I go to a house that had a puppy that had parvo? the puppy was there the Wednesday before memorial wkend till tuesday and they have since cleaned with bleach,... there is other yorkies there and the adults are doing fine.however the 3 puppies are battling for life right now :( .... I would like to be on the safest side. and just understand how long to wait before I could take my little one over there. yes mine has had all he's shots.and he'll be 5 mo on June 9th. thnaks... |
I don't think I would take mine over at all. I may be a little extreme but babies are still struggling just to stay alive? Bleach or no bleach...better safe than sorry. |
I don't know the correct answer here but I have heard that even using bleach to clean everything still doesn't kill parvo and that it can live outside even through the winter on the ground. This may be wrong but I have read it somewhere before. I wouldn't chance it. |
The best person to ask would more than likely be a vet. |
I agree with beable about asking a vet. I would stay away all together, just because I am paranoid, especially if there are other puppies that are sick now. But a vet would probably know best. |
Anyone from the house where the parvo is could bring it to your house on their shoes, likewise you could bring it home if you went there. I've read that the virus can live for 6 months. Even with your pup being vaccinated, I wouldn't want him anywhere near the virus at all. The people at the affected house should be very mindful of just how easy it is to spread this virus. :aimeeyork :animal-pa :animal-pa :animal-pa :animal-pa |

In your case since you know Parvo is pressent you need to be extra cautious. There is no way I would risk taking my pup areound an area that has Parvo. It is too deadly a virus to risk it. They say bleach kills it, but if the animals were outside at all, it would still be there. In the house, even after bleach how could you know all of it was gotten? All the best to you. _______________________________________ |
It can last a long time in the environment, perhaps as long as 9 months or longer. |
Well then I just need to have bleach to wash the bottom of shoes at my house...or something. I will talk to my vet Monday.. because even though this parvo case happened we the adults and kids are all dear freinds like family and we see each other all the time like evry wkend. true I can keep my pup from there house for awhile......even though it is who I got my pup from..... ugh srry for the venting friends think I will just go lay down. |
I agree ask a vet . But I was told Parvo is a virus which can live up to years ... a friend of mine bought a home and she lost her puppy because the precious owners had a dog with parvo . |

And up to 9 months in the environment surrounding your home . |

parvo is so easily spread and sooo deadly. IMO, why risk it? |

:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup: to EVERYTHING everyone has posted. My puppy got parvo and it was a nightmare. He already had two sets of vaccinations, we never ONCE took him outside and somehow, he got it. It was horrible - he was hospitalized for 6 days and almost died. It cost us over $1600. If you just search, I bet you can find my threads about it. In my opinion, you can NEVER be too safe. I honestly wouldn't take your dog over there until he/she is at least 7-8 months. Parvo can definitely live as long as a year inside a home. |
