I think this is the best way to go. Although, I've gotta say, I love this! :D (and would pay money to see it take place!) Besides, you don't want to ruin your own celebration! You've worked too hard and too long to do that. Quote:

I have a general rule... Once..shame on you....twice SHAME ON ME! I think that this guy is insensitive. No matter what his reasons are, he knows it bothers you. I wouldn't continue to talk to him. If he doesn't respect your dog he's not worth having as a friend or aquaintance. Distance yourself from this insentitive idiot. |
I always find when something is bothering me ( and in your nursing career ) the best way to handle it is to just tell the person what it is and ask them nicely to stop doing it ... and if this does not work maybe you do not need to associate with someone who can not appreciate your furbaby ( if he was making fun of your child would you tolerate it ?) . Congrats on nursing school ... good luck ... what field are you entering into ? |
I think you really need to stop and ask yourself if it is really worth ruining a relationship with your neighbor over this...it doesn't sound like he is intentionally trying to hurt your feelings...I say pick your battles. If it bothers you tell him. Drinking up courage is not the way to handle things and you may find yourself regretting the fact that you didn't muster up the courage to just tell him you didn't like it in the first place. |
:congrats: on graduating nursing school! I get annoyed when people say stupid stuff about Duke too, I've heard the "rat dog" comment, I also get the "hey, it's a kick-me" dog. ugh. If he does it again, try making it apparent that he pissed you off, and tell him you would appreciate it if he would quit referring to your dog as a rat dog. He might think he's being funny, and not realize that he's actually pissing you off. If he doesn't stop at that point, then call him something rude and see how much he likes it. |
I found out a long time ago to not let it anger me but compliment the rat caller with a thank you for having read up on the breed and knowing that they had been used for going into the holes and killing the rats and not only are they known for this they are also known for the fierce aggressive attitude that was bred into them. I have had Yorkes that have killed gopher's and mice don't stand a chance in one's garage or home when you have the fierce little ratter ready to take it on. I'm proud to call mine a ratter, dustmop, or furbaby because each has a purpose. |
Your neighbor sounds completely jealous to me. I've had ppl call mine rats also, but its always ppl i know that just want to bother lol Sometimes i'll say stuff back to them, like one time my godbrother called Teddy a rat dog and ugly and i said, 'Atleast he gets more girls than you':p He didn't know what to say back lol And it's true, Teddy does get a lot of girls:p |

Well 1st things 1st CONGRATULATIONS on NURSING SCHOOL!! Woohoo! That's quite an acheivement :) I took my NET when i was 8mos preg w/my 1st son and passed to continue in the fall when school would start again. But between then I had my son and having a newborn and starting 1st year of Nursing just didn't quite go together. :( One day I will go back and get to have the day your having tomorrow! Congratulations again on your accomplishment! It takes a special kind of person to take care of others ;) I know, worked in nursing homes for almost 10 years ;) So sorry gota bit OT. As for the neighbor, just straight out tell him. "Her name is Callie, and if you don't like it, then just leave her alone. Plain and simple, straight to the point but not rude ;) |
Just say to him...." I would let you hold my rat dog but she doesn't like pig men" maybe then he'll get the message. Your baby is precious, screw him!!! Who needs friends, just get another yorkie!! YEAH!! |
Well the party has come and gone, and the rude neighbor showed up, but while he was there Callie was tuckered out and napping in her kennel inside. Issue deterred for now. He didn't mention Callie at all. Thanks everyone for all of your input to the issue, I appreciate it! |
If this is the "only" issue you have with your neighbor, consider yourself lucky! I'd much rather my neighbor call my dog a "rat dog" then have a neighbor who hates dogs, teases my dogs, or is all out a nuisance. My dad calls Scooter "Rat Dog" and "Little Rat." I know he's saying it just to be cute, so it doesn't bother me. We call his big lab, (also named Scooter) all sorts of things as well...Goober Head...Big Butt...Dummy... Don't make him angry, though. It it really bothers you that bad (and it sounds like it does) then next time he says it, just say, "I know you are being funny, (or you mean well) but it really bothers me when you call my dog that. I prefer her to be called by her name so she doesn't get confused." You DON'T want to make enemies out of your neighbors when you have dogs! |

I agree with the above post by ScootieBootie where she suggests not making waves with your neighbor. I have a horrible neighbor, believe me she is just awful but I smile whenever I see her and she continues to be rude, rude, rude.....my horescope stated this yesterday and it seems to fit perfectly here: "Kindness in the face of rudeness is not only more polite, it's smart." I think it's always better to be respectful even when the other person is a total Ass. Besides, you just never know when you are going to need that neighbor...for a favor, for help, for who knows what. I've been walking downtown Santa Barbara and most of the people love my yorkie but just last week someone goes..."Haha look at the little rat." I just smiled, looked at my friend as we were walking and said what an idiot. People are so small. |
we hear this all the time any repair man that has came over the ups guy, ugh my list is endless, I have just let it go, though these people don't know me or how sweet Grayson can really be. Good luck |
