I don't smoke but my husband, son and daughter do. My husband smokes outside when it is decent out in the dead of winter when the weather is bad he smokes in the basement. My daughter and son respect my wishes and do not smoke in my house. |

It is another web site from yt.com, it is 4WomenTalk.com. It is about yorkies, smoking, you name it. |
|

Hey girl, Im a smoker! I never smoke around my dogs. I used to in the car, but I got a new car and dont smoke in it at all anymore. I smoke outside of my house also. I just feel soooo bad that those little itty bitty lungs would get hurt by my smoking so I dont do it. I won't pick them up when Im smoking, I won't let anyone else smoking pick them up. I think your friend is mean to put that innocent baby in the way of second hand smoke! :( |

I don't smoke, but other people have smoked around Kacee and she coughs if it gets too close to her. She is the same way if she happens to get too close to me when I'm cleaning windows. Windex makes her cough. I've noticed any strong odor does this to her. I don't know why, but I keep her clear of people smoking or chemical sprays now. They are like people. Some are more sensitive than others. Now, nothing like this ever bothered Muffin. So, you never know. |

P.S. My husband said my worst problem is my lack of patience. So I understand not being able to wait for a reply ;) |

I don't smoke. And good for you for not smoking around your dog. My only input here would be that, when I go out with friends to bars where smoking is still allowed I am miserable! My eyes hurt, I stink and I cough for days! When I leave it's straight to the shower to clean up, I have long hair and it takes soooo long to get the cigarette smell out. Even though I had a good time:cool: I am not saying anything to diss smokers, some of the coolest people in my life smoke:D but, yorkies have a nice coat, similar to human hair, I couldn't imagine what your friends dog must smell like. I would think that dog would be miserable! People that smoke around pets and children are a little morally questionable in my book. Especially in this day and age! |
|
I'm a smoker and I do NOT smoke around my dogs or kids. Only outside. I guess your friend has never heard of all the people getting cancer and other respiratory diseases from second hand smoke:( |

Several years ago, my daughter and I found an older yorkie and brought it home with us. The poor thing could barely breath, it was just pitiful. When we found the owners, he told us that "Molly" was his deceased Mother's dog and had emphysema from his Mother smoking around her for years. Which ironically is what killed his Mother as well. So tell your friend, that if the breeder told her that, she's smoked one too many ciggies! Common sense tells us that if it's bad for humans, it's bad for dogs! To be honest, I don't even like for anyone to touch my dogs if they've been smoking. I can smell it on their coats. YUCK! |

Three out of five people in our house smoke.. we all go outside.. not once has any one of us even thought of smoking inside.. my mom used to smoke indoors.. we had white walls.. or so we thought... you should've seen them once we repainted:eek: But to the point.. althought we don't trap the dogs in a locked room while we smoke.. they are outside with us.. and we do hold them if they want up.. but I (I think we all) make sure to blow the smoke the other way |

Sorry I was a little busy during my day but here it goes: You could be killing your companion animal. Although the life-threatening effects of breathing secondhand smoke from cigarettes and cigars have been scientifically established in human beings, scant attention has been paid to what cigarette smoke does to cats, dogs, birds, and other animals who share homes with smokers. "Smoking around other living beings like dogs is just as much a problem as smoking around children is," Anyone who lives with animals and must light up needs to be responsible enough to do it outside. It’s easy, and it could prolong or even save your animal’s life." |

 I allways smoke outside ! |

I also just saw it. I don't smoke but having a dog with CT, I definitely think it affects pets. Scooter just took his last antibiotic and another med today because he had a really bad episode last week. He would wake up during the night gasping for breath. I think it's getting worse the older he gets. My Mother was a smoker and like the other poster, I tried it as a teen but it made me so dizzy. I learned to inhale because my friends did it. I would sit there like nothing was wrong but the room was moving. LOL. No, it wasn't for me and I didn't do ir for long. |

I haven't read past your second post. But that one made me have to respond. First, don't take it personally if you don't get a lot of replies! YT has grown leaps and bounds since I joined in March of '06 and it is isn;'t uncommon to not log on for two days and see there have been 2000 new posts!!!:eek: We all have posts that get overlooked, or driven into the black hole of the second page, lol. I am not a smoker any more. Quit in 1990 after 18 years of smoking, before I ever adopted my first furry boy. But I will say, that if I did smoke, just like children, I would never smoke in my home with them in it. I would go outside. No one is allowed to smoke in my home, ever. |

I tried to get a script for Chantix because it worked really well for my best friend's husband. My doctor wouldn't prescribe it for me. He wants me to quit cold turkey which I have never been able to do. If I was a junkie (heroin) he would probably help me get on methadone (sp?) but no help from him with quitting smoking. He wanted to give me the patch, I don't know why. I can't use it anyway because I have tried it before and it causes me to have blazing color nightmares. No thanks. ;) During these nightmares I feel feel like I am awake and it is all very vivid and totally...well...nightmarish. :D |

As a cardiac nurse who sees the effects of nicotine on the heart every day that I work, IMO, smoking is bad first, second or any other hand. My animals are my babies and I wouldn't smoke around them either. |
|
I don't smoke, buy my dad does. He never smokes around his dog (a large lab) nor does he smoke around us. I would think the smoking would have an effect on the dog's quality of life myself. This is something I'd be interested in asking my vet about, just for curiousity sake! |

My husband smokes a lot and at home when we were living in a 500 sq ft condo and from that, I have nose problems. I knew it was from the smoke because each time he smokes, the reaction starts, I start to tear up, my nose runs and I started sneezing repeatedly. Although he doesn't smoke around me anymore and my reactions aren't that bad, the symptoms still comes back once in a while or when he smokes with me being in the car. After that, he doesn't smoke around me or Pao anymore. |
|
Smoker  But outside I go.... |
|
i do not smoke, but my husband smokes cigars, but outside only . i would never allow smoking around my little sammy. my daughter used to smoke and the after a few years of trying everything on the market, patches, pills, gum & everything else, the only way she quit, ( COLD TURKEY ) was finding out she was pregnant ! now it is over 2 years and she did not go back, i am so happy |
|
I smoked for 20+ years and quit 6months ago:D I have never smoked in my house around my furbabies or my skin babies. My husband still smokes but we have always either smoked outside or smoked in the garage. I truly believe that 2nd hand smoke is harmful to all living things. That being said, I also believe that different people or animals are more suseptible (sp?) to getting sick from it just from specific genes they may or may not carry. So just because one dog can be around a smoker and live to 17yrs doesn't mean your dog will be so lucky. |
|
ok well i used to smoke inside with them, but now we are both smoking outside becuase i was paranoid that people can smell the smoke on my clothes so we stopped. smoking inside...but i imagine that it cant be good for them. good luck on quiting if that is what you want to do! |
|
My folks smoke and they go outside to smoke. |

I live in a very small town and finding a good doctor here is like looking for a needle in a haystack, Too much haystack and too few needles. I could go to another town but an hours drive, at least. :( I know I just need to bite the bullet and do it). |
