Advice Needed For Moving Transition Simba and I recently moved from a three bedroom, spacious house with a GIANT backyard, to a one bedroom 700 sq.ft. apartment on the 4th floor. There's a huge park a half block away for us to get our walks, instead of his old backyard. Does anyone have any advice for changing from a huge house to an apartment? It's been so long since I've lived in an apartment, and this is a first for Simba. Any advice and handy tips would be greatly appreciated. I've posted a new album of pictures of Simba today. Please check them out. :questione:animal36 |
Keep his routine the same as much as possible. This will help his transition the most. Walk him daily around his new neighborhood to get him accustomed to the sights, smells, and new environment. Introduce him to your neighbors to get him used to them as well. The most important thing you can do is to keep his schedule the same, and walk him as much as possible to reduce anxiety/stress as well as get him used to his new home. Get a long leash that you can play fetch with him on since you no longer have your own large yard. Take him out and about with you as much as possible! I wrote an article on moving with pets, but since you have already made the move, much of it will not apply! Moving With Dogs Be aware that he may start having potty accidents due to the stress of the move. Just clean it up, and do not punish him if it happens! Many dogs backslide in the house training area when they are moved! |
