The Vacuum Monster! Anyone else's yorkie absolutely postively terrified of the vacuum??? Has anyone had any success in calming their yorkie so that he/she is not so afraid of it? My little guy just hides and shakes & shakes & shakes when I vacuum. I live in a very tiny studio apartment so there isn't any place that I can put him safely except the car and sometimes it is too hot for that. I've started placing him up on my bed and that seems to help alleviate some of the fear but I just wish I could make it so he's not so scared of the Vacuum Monster. He even has my cat running from the vacuum now which the cat didn't used to be afraid of the vacuum. Any suggestions? |
Alphy used to be but now he tries to attack it. Murphy is a puppy and totally terrified. Gets himself into a corner and literally tries to climb the wall. It breaks my heart. I'm gonna start putting him my front carrier for him when I vac. I don't have any suggestions but maybe you could hold him while you vacuum. Guess that was a suggestion huh? :( good grief |
Bubba is scared to death of the vacuum. If we let him outside he hides under the deck. In the house he hides under the computer desk and would come out until he hears the closet door where we keep it close. |
Zoeybear bites the bag and Baby Chloe hides! |
My two are afraid of the vacuum. The title of your thread is funny. :D For you, putting your little guy on the bed or if he is crate trained, on your bed in his crate would probably be the best place for him. |
Mine are afraid of it or maybe its the loud noise. I know when my husband starts up his motorcycle she also runs and jumps into bed. So I'm wondering if its not more of the noise that hurts there ears. I use to have one yorkie that would chase the vacuum but now they are all afraid of it. |
I always put mine in their crate when they were pups because they were scared. After awhile, Jake didn't seem bothered by it at all. Now he gets up on the couch and watches it go back and forth. Jackson sometimes barks at it, but he has gotten more used to it. |
My pups are afraid of it too, they run and hide. I usually clean a room at a time and move them to a different room. How about putting him in the bathroom? |

Yes, I suppose I could put both the pup and the kitty in the bathroom. That way they could be miserable together....ha! I have hardwood floors so I'm sure the vacuum moving across the hardwood adds to their stress. I will give it a shot, I just hate for them to think they were being punished and I was banishing them to the bathroom. (Just kidding, but who knows what they are thinking, right?)...poor babies. |
i have all hard wood or indian slate floors...but Cesar did a episode of the DW with a Yorkie and a Vacuum maybe you could find that;) |

All three of my girls are not one bit afraid of the vacuum. In fact, Zada just snoozes, Azrael walks (or I should say "struts") back and forth in front of it like she's letting "it" know she is NOT afraid. It's so funny. Our baby Razael just barks at it then runs around gathering up her toys like it might eat them. :D |
