Genetic testing? Been reading on the web all the different genetic test that are now available for the different breeds. I did login to UC Davis website and request a free kit for Rocky which I'll mail back. http://www.vgl.ucdavis.edu/research/canine/projects/ Not sure if the above link is going to provide me a full genetic health test on Rocky but I'm curious if anyone has had a genetic test done on there Yorkie yet and what lab they would recommend? Please provide links if you have them...Thx. |
That's pretty cool. I wonder if you get any results back, or if the sample is used only for their research? In any event, it's still something I'd think about doing! Thanks for posting that! |
This website is great...It provides a wealth of information on the different labs and links to them. Just page down twice to see the table. I went to vetgen and upenn website and also requested information on tests they have for Yorkies...I'll update you when I get a reply back. http://www.ivis.org/advances/Concann...r_frm.asp?LA=1 I know there are many wonderful breeders on this site that say they do genetic testing. It would be nice to get some recommendations from the labs you have used. |
Call Me Stupid ??? Okay,Sorry to nose in but I am wondering if You don't mind. Why do You get genetic tests done.I am a newby and I am very interested. Thanks  |
Good question. The explosion in DNA-related technology offers a unique opportunity to greatly reduce the frequency of serious genetic diseases in dogs. This was taken from Michigan State University...This site is great. My Rocky is only 1 1/2 years old and is very happy and healthy. Nice to see what technology is available in identifying diseases. http://www.med.umich.edu/hg/RESEARCH...compendium.htm |
