Tips on Tiny's??? My neighbor has been on a waiting list for a small little girl for some time, well finally the little girl they have been waiting for is spayed and ready to come home. My neighbors are also moving, and their breeders have had a new litter of puppies (7) that are keeping them really bussy. So my neighbors are picking their baby up next week but have asked me if I will keep her for them untill all the moving is done and things are put away, for the saftey for the puppy. Ofcourse I said yes, but this sweet girl is still quite a bit under 2 lbs at 5 months, she is the same size copper was at about 12 weeks or less. I have done lots of reading and think I know basically what I need to have on hand (most things I already have from Copper) I would love to hear any sugesstions or tips you have on taking care of such a tiny girl? She will also be a week out of the spay, any special considerations I should be aware of? ( I only have had a boy so for;)) oh and I dropped off my camera this morning to get fixed so cross your fingers that it is nothing big wrong, and that they will get my camera back to me in time to take and post some adoreable pictures:) |
I guess the two main concerns I would have are hypoglycemia and injuries due to them jumping off the couch or bed. Many people keep a tube of Nutri-Cal or Karo Syrup (the white kind) on hand for small puppies, they can use their calorie reserves very quickly. If gums are white or puppy acts dazed and confused rub some Nurti-cal on the roof of their mouths ASAP. We keep steps by the couch and bed and taught Joey at an early age how to use them, but sometimes they get excited and still try to jump, so this is something that needs to be guarded for. Good luck and have fun! |

I didn't see one but I will look again, I havent had to use it in a while. I am just such a preplanner that I like to be prepared for everything. |

I would imagine it does, since sugar is the main ingredient, if it doesn't have an expiration date, just make sure it's hasn't hardened in the tube. |
Have fun with that baby girl!! Just watch out...you are going to fall in love and not want to give her up!! Don't let her jump since she has an incision. Keep her from licking it too so that it doens't get infected. Hopefully, her vet put her on antibiotics to help keep down infection. There is an expiration date on the nutrastat on the crimp of the end of the tube that i have. I have had this tube for 2 years and it doesn't expire until december 08. i keep in on hand since i have 2 tinies. The tube came with Princess and i used it a few times on her and a couple of times with Candy. Both of them are grown now so i don't need it any more but still keep it around just for a little sugar treat on rare occasions. |

Plus there is nothing wrong in a little puppy refresher course just in case I have to start that I want a new baby thread;) Or better yet a support group for those that cannot resist cute puppy faces and sweet girly dresses:rolleyes: |
She is here today, They named her Polka Dot and call her Dottie she has a white speck on her chest and is pretty light in color she is in a puppy cut so most the darker hair has been cut off and the top of her head is white where she is changing color, a real cutie pie. Still waiting on my camera  it really shouldn't take this long to fix it but they are waiting on parts, anyway. She is so confident that it is kind of comical, she definitely doesn't know how small she is. I think that confidence is going to be mostly what i need to watch for. She is napping right now because it has been such a bussy morning for her and Copper is sitting by her, licking her face and then he will stop and bring her a ball( his fave toy) she has 3 balls sitting by her right now:D this is just too much fun!!! Thankyou everyone who responded to give me ideas and tips, I picked up an extra set of doggy stairs so she wont be tempted to jump and am really watching to make sure she is eating, have nutri-cal close at hand incase I need to use it. |

Wow, wouldn't it be great if we could all find sitters such as you when boarding out pets. How kind of you to be so conscientious in safeguarding her. I agree with you, it's their confidence and fearlessness that can gets them into trouble. Hope you can get the camera fixed! |
