Sleep Deprived - Please Help! My baby is 8 months old and sleeps in a crate. She whines a bit when it’s time to go to bed, but sleeps through the night. My problem is – she wakes up too early around 5 or 6am!!! How can I get her to sleep longer? I want her to sleep until at least 7am. She goes to bed around 11pm. I don’t think she has to go to the bathroom – I think she wants to get the day started. She sleeps in the bedroom right next to mine, but the trainer says she should sleep in the same room close to me so it’s den-like. I am loosing sleep over this!!! What can I do to make her sleep longer in the morning – ignore her? And, do you think it’s okay for her to sleep farther away from me so I can’t hear her waking up early? To clarify, she wakes up early whether she's in the room with me or not. Thanks. |

However...Mika did start sleeping a little longer the older she got, hang in there. |
Moses used to do this too when i first got him. he sleeps in another room and that way i can get my rest. he whined & barked at first but after ignoring him for a bit, he quieted down. Now he never whines at bedtime. he's also eventually developed the same sleep habits as the rest of the family. so now he wakes up at basically the same time everyday. i'd say it just takes time to get into a certain routine whether they are in your room or not. HTH! :) |
i was up every hour with lexi then every two hours and so on.. even now lexi wants me to get up at 530am, she paws me and jumps on my head or my chest and i have to get up.. its time to get up she says and i do |
I am kinda lucky, Baileys crate is next to my bed so he can see me. He cried for about 20 mins the first 2 nights we got him and has slept ALL the way through ever since :D sometimes he might cry for 10mins of a morning (hardly ever) and i just ignore him and he goes bk alseep lol. of a weekend i get up about 7am take him potty and then go bk to bed and so does he, haha!! i think he is used to getting up when i get up now :D |
That's a tough one! Jamie only started sleeping later when I let him sleep in the bed with me. |
Yikers. I dont know what you could do. My girl sleeps from 10 in the evening till 7 or 8 the next morning, lol. She is a sleepy head....but look out during the day when she's ready to go....talk about energy! |
Sophie was probably a year old before she stopped waking us up at 3-4AM. Now she wakes us up like our alarm. She barks, needs to go potty, around 6:30. I think it will eventually get better for you. |
Our weekday schedule means getting up at 6....so mine are more or less trained to go out early...even on the weekends. Ramsey is a good girl...she'll come back to bed with us....the boys are much too busy for that. |
Mine go to bed about 11 pm, they get up at 1:30 and then get up to eat at 3:30 to 4 am, I cannot get them to go past 4 am. They eat and will go back to bed for a couple of hours. My 11 year old pom has medica conditions that make her very thristy, hungry and have to pee so I can't make her stay asleep. I would think that she may settle in when she gets older. |
I would take her for a walk before bed, maybe that will help her sleep a little longer. But, if she's waking because she has to go, I'd take her out. She is still young. My Jake is almost 2, and he sleeps in...he's not a morning dog at all. Jackson is 9 1/2 mos. and he wakes up early to potty and eat, then he plays for a few minutes and goes back to sleep until Jake decides to wake up lol. |

I was going to suggest a long walk before you go to sleep! I dont really know what else to suggest because I have never had that problem with Gracie... the first night I got her I woke her up to go potty... and then the sec. night I thought I should just see what happens and she has slept the whole night thru ever since! :) so sorry that you are not getting any sleep... maybe shes hungry? good luck! |
Maybe you could darken the room.... she may be waking up when the sun comes up!! ;) |
What about when she wakes up take her into your bed for the next few hours. Usually they go back to sleep because they are so happy to be in bed with you. |
