Question about Petland So in March I bought my lexie lu :aimeeyorkfrom petland . the otherday i was reading online about petland and i shedded into tears. it said petland uses puppy mills so if a puppy mill gets over populated they gas some dogs and throw them out. Is that true? or is it a lie? |
Hi Welcome to YT I am So so Sorry to tell But yes it is True Petland Is a Terrible place. Count yourself Lucky if your sweet pup is healthy. here is a google search for you to read. Petland and puppy mills - Google Search |

I'm so sorry you found this out. I was in your shoes almost two years ago when I bought my first furbaby from a petstore and went to look up his "breeders" info to find they were on a puppymill list. It's a devestating feeling to know the truth, but do not beat yourself up. You didn't know and pet stores are EXPERTS at lying and hiding the truth about where pet store puppies come from. Now that you know you can educate others about the horrible truth of pet stores and puppy mills and help them so they don't find out the same way you did about where their puppy really came from and so that less people support this industry. Really though, do NOT feel bad at all. Many of us have been there before we knew and we all just grow and learn from it. *big hugs* to you and your furbaby! |

I am so sorry. I know how horrible you feel. Here, where we live there is a Petland that is a cematary and where you can have your dog cremated. My vet said they were very reliable and they had took care of her lab when he passed away. I had Max cremated there and went and brought his urn home. Well, I began to read on the internet where they had numerous complaints about cremating more than one dog at a time. I was hurt and furious to think we paid for a private cremation. I don't really know what we got. Isn't it a shame what this world has come to for a dollar. |
Yes, the fact that Petland gets it's puppies from puppy mills is pretty well known. Here are some links for you to read: Petstore Cruelty Puppy e-Mills Churn Out Sick Dogs, Big Profits |
Lexie Lu is still your sweet furbaby, and that will never change :) |

Thanks Thank you, all of you, soooooo much!!! You'r advice and everything!! But i hear that if you go to a vet that petland ask you to go to they will tell you the dog is healthy and if you dont your dog could be sick is that also true? and does that mean i save my little lexies life? but thanks forr everything!!! :rose:kaylee |
As been mentioned earlier, many, many of use have purchased puppies from pet shops or byb. I have one directly from a puppymill (didn't know that was what it was), and 2 from bybs. My Pommie is a rescue and who knows where he comes from. I found YT just after I purchased my 3rd Yorkie. YT has taught me how to make my furbabies' lives as healthy as possible. I'm always learning. Welcome to YT. By the way, there are awesome vendors on this sight. Check them out. |
It's true - the best thing you can do is get a complete checkup - contact petland and tell them you KNOW where they get their dogs and that you'll be telling everyone you know Good luck with your new puppy - you didn't know so don't beat yourself up over it but it's a terrible thing that they are in business they are the BIGGEST CUSTOMER of Puppy Mills - all across the country :( |

Personally I wouldn't go to a petland vet, someone who's being paid to support puppymill puppies? I would change my dogs vet and go to a private vet. These people see these sick puppies all the time and still do business with these folks, are not in it for your dog's health but for your MONEY. Also I would go to a place that just sells pet supplies, NO ANIMALS, or shop online. Just like puppymills, there's rabbit mills, bird mills, ect. PetCo and other places even though they don't sell puppies, still are supporting buyers of rabbits, birds, ect. |
Kennel cough (bordatella) is so common in pet shop puppies that store personnel often pretend that it is a normal condition. It is not. It can develop into life-threatening pneumonia, and we know of three cases (and we expect there are many more) in which this occurred in puppies purchased at the Fairfax Petland. The puppies were coughing within a day or two after purchase. When the condition worsened and the store vet's office was closed, the puppies had to be taken to an emergency clinic, avoiding the Petland warranty, which requires that the dog be brought to the store's vet. Petland offered to pay only a fraction of the vet bills. Pneumonia is only one of the illnesses found frequently in Petland puppies. What happens to the puppies who are rejected by Petland's store vet and are put back on the truck? According to someone who has worked on this issue for many years, they are not sent "back to the breeder," as we have heard Petland employees state. If they cannot be passed off to another stop the truck was making, they are sent back to the Hunte Corp., who subjects them to yet another long truck ride and sells them, along with other "Grade B" puppies, at a flea market or to people selling dogs over the Internet. Several local vets who have treated puppies purchased at the Fairfax Petland have stated that the many of the puppies are sick. One said, "I HATE Petland!" Another said of a Petland puppy, "This puppy is a walking time bomb." A local trainer working with Petland puppies found many of them unsocialized, extremely difficult to train, and mentally and emotionally ill. We have been disappointed by the failure of most veterinarians to take an ethical stand against pet stores and puppy mills. from petstorecruelty.org |

Thanks :) One pet store over here stop selling puppies from all the protesters they would get, people stop buying from there solely because of it. They saw this was hurting their business, so they stopped. But they still sell exotic pets [lemurs, mundi coatis, ect] Only downfall about not shopping here is that they're the only carriers around here for EVO dog food. They're trying to shut down Wizard Of Claws [not sure if they did?] down here. People wrote to the news channels and held protests outside the store many times. I sometimes hear Petland employees say we don't sell teacup dogs like Wizard Of Claws or other stores, to make them look better off. If they have no business, they will change their ways. The store I go to sells teacup puppies, but its the only store that sells Canidae dog food, which I have my dogs on. But I'm going to start purchasing the food online from now on :) |

Sorry, but it's true. The dogs there are Puppy Mill dogs. They charge an arm and a leg, but pay next to nothing for the dogs they get. I once saw an English Bulldogge (always wanted one!) for 1/2 off because she had a severe case of cherry eye and demodectic mange. I asked how much she was (thought she'd be cheap with those conditions) and was told $1600! She was originally $3200, and I know because I said (when they told me $1600) that wow she was "only" going to be $800? And they said no, the $1600 IS the half off price... I walked away sick. That poor dog. How many people are going to pay that much for an animal they will right off the bat have to spend a hefty vet bill for? Sad...it really should be shut down. http://www.petstorecruelty.org/boycottpetland.htm Consumer complaints about Petland There are many more sites like this about Petland. Tragic... |
Not just Petland I was minutes away from buying from Petland. Lucky for me I really have to make up my mind before spending money (My GF says it's because I'm cheap) I went home and research and found out about Petland buying from puppymills. I'm now educated and currently wait for my baby from a breeder that is 5 hours away. The drive means nothing even with gas prices, just to know it's coming from a good place. The sick fact is it isn't just Petland it's most pet store. I say most because I don't know for sure if it's all, even if thats what I think. The more people know the faster this will come to an end, I feel sad for the moms, and babies that aren't been loved just caged. |
yea yes, your right. im goint to make a social group of puppymill protesters, but how do i do it?, and thanks for all the info on those evil puppymills. why are they so cruel:mad:, give some love to these companions!!!!!! thanks kaylee |
