Just a quick question Can a dog be allergic to the food they have eaten all their lives at 6 years old? |
Yes, an allergy can develop overnight. While it's not common, it does happen. |

I was going to say I wouldn't doubt it since I know people can develop allergies later on in life, but I see Nancy1999's already confirmed it. |
I probably should add that it might also be possible the company changed the ingredients without informing consumers. |
Yes , it can happen . Before changing the food , ask your vet to do an allergy test , just to know to what he is allergic . |
Our Irish wolfhound developed a reaction to something. We went to the vets and he said…..do we feed him in a stainless steel bowl? Which we had for 2 years. We stopped feeding him in the stainless steel bowl to see how he went. Low and behold, the red sore rash he had on his face, lips and eyes went. So it was the stainless steel bowl! The vet said many dogs get a reaction from them. |
Thank you :) It isn't for my dog. I am asking on behalf of someone else in another forum from another country :) He is feeding Royal Canin to his dog and his dog is licking his paw raw. Vet ruled out fungus and such after tests are done. I just told him that the culprit is Royal Canin, the corn in it but I was't sure if food allergy can only show up later on in life as he has been feeding his dog Royal Canin for the longest time-years so I come on YT to ask :). |

Royal Canin Dog Food I feed my Barclay Royal Canin, and now I have heard that two Yorkies have had reactions to the food!!! This makes me nervous. What is the best food that is natural and less likely to cause a reaction, so far no signs and symptoms of a reaction. But both me and my sister feed our Yorkies Royal Canin because we thought it was the "best" food. Any insight from other YT'ERS who may have had experience with Royal Canin and reactions. Stainless steal bowls are thought to be safer than plastic because plastic can develop small scratches where bacteria can grow. However, several people have remarked that their dogs have developed allergies from stainless steal bowls and this may be due to the fact that stainless steel has a high nickel content, which is a highly allergic material. (Remember pierced earrings that were made from nickel?) Over time, more nickel may be exposed, and lead to the allergic reaction. I purchased several porcelain bowls that I can put in the dishwasher. Porcelain is thought to be a safer material than other ceramics as it is non-reactive (lead can't leach out) so virtually any food can be cooked or stored in it. |
