She is scooting a little bit is it worms? Well, i caught her scooting last week a little bit, then i gave her a flea dip, thinking it might be fleas, but she doesnt have any, .....so i just caught her scooting again this morning...and i have notice some funny noises coming from her tummy , ...and the reason why i dont think she has worms is because i do not see anything in her (number 2's) a.k.a little tootie rolls,(poo)...:confused:do you guys think she has worms?...or something else...any ideas..please, any ideas thanks guys:) |
She may need her annal glands expressed. My groomer does it for me. Betty |

Joey had a real problem with his anal glands the first 8 months. The first symptom was the scooting behavior. We took him to the vet, who expressed the glands, and said that some dogs just don't push hard enough after defecating to completely empty the glands. He showed me the proper way to express them and how to tell if they are enlarged. I don't think I would feel good about having a groomer do it because some groomers are hired with little or no training and learn on the job. It's very important that the glands be expressed properly because you can push the fluid up further and cause an impaction, which can lead to a serious infection. This may be a one time thing only or it could continue, with Joey, he outgrew; it and has been fine the last year with no more scooting. |
My groomer is also breeds and shows. I did not get Jack from her but he was scooting and she did it once about a month ago and so far no more problems. My trainer who also boarded for me suppressed Mia's 2 weeks ago and no problem with her since. I have been feeding both a prey model diet for the last 3 weeks and everything is going fine now. By all means if you are confident in your groomer, but so many people use the Pet Smart type groomers, and you never know who you will get. Also, some groomers do this whether or not there is a problem, and from what I have read this is not a good idea. |
I wouldn't use a flea dip on a puppy !! I hope it wasn't hartz - please stay away from those products - ALL of them .....You can gar something safer from your vet or Pet meds for fleas - as far as the scooting - that could be what everyone said - I would let your vet do it - it's no fun - (we had a cocker that had it done) and some groomers may not know how to do it right |
We are going through a worm problem right now and teh vet told me this morning that we may not see the tape worms. They will look like rice if we do. Baxter was doing the scooting and I didn't think about it being worms. I finally saw some blood in his poop and called the vet. He also acts like something is biting at his rump. |
Roxi has had to have her anal glands expressed a couple times since we have had her.. Theres a good chance thats what it is... But I agree with the other posters, that I would only have my vet do it!! Sometimes she still scoots, but its pretty rare good luck |
I agree with the others, it's probably her anal glands...It's usually not expensive to have them expressed by the vet. |
Has your puppy had diarreah ?(sp?) Our puppy did this, and we took her to the vet thinking that she had worms. No worms...the vet said she may have done the scooting because she had a bout with diarreah and it was her way of trying to get it off of her real good. |
