Flea meds? [/B] Hi all :) Have a question about the flea meds. I was wondering if anyone has tried the over the counter meds for fleas such as Bio-spot?? :p If you do order them online?? What do you use or prefer?? Thanks Jack & Mandy's Mom :wavey: :jump28ib: :happyboun :yorkiesar |
I don't use over the counter but we use frontline plus (you can get at your vet or online)...it kills fleas, ticks and (mites)~I'm not sure ont he mites but I beleive it does that also ....you reapply every 30days on the back of their neck...so far no comaplints and I take him for walks all the time |
I use biospot and really like it. It is the only thing that Memphis isn't allergic to and I have had great luck so far usin it on Preslee. |
Fleas :) My only concern is the way that Mandy and Jack play. They are always playing biting each other when playing on the back of the neck. Its tough to keep them from playing, til it soaks in. How long would you think it would take to soak in?? Thankyou for the advice :animal36 :aimeeyork :aimeeyork Jack and Mandy's Mom :aimeeyork :aimeeyork |
You really end up combing the hair and putting it on the back of the hair after which time i would say it is dry in about 15 mins...if even that long and it is only 1x a month so after your apply it I don't give a bath for 3 days and then they are protected all month...maybe do it at the same time and then put pj's on them so it can set??? |
I also use frontline plus and never found anything on them.I live in a hot area where there's alot of fleas.3 days after giving them a bath then after I put it on I wait another 3 days before I decide to give them another bath. |
I use frontline top Spot. I love it . |
I use the Frontline Plus also. I was told the k-9 Advantix could be harmful to our cats if we pet the dogs and then handle the cats, so that was out. I thought I also read that with the Bio Spot they can't get wet or it loses its effectiveness?? I'm not 100% certain but I think that's why I didn't go with it since our dogs need baths at times. |
Fleas Thanks all for your input. I see most of you don't use over the counter flea meds. I am also glad that I know now about handling cats after using some of these meds because i have two indoor cats :cat: too. :) :teethysmi Jack and Mandy's Mom :rollingey :yorkietal |
frontline plus :thumbdown http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sho...ight=frontline This is a link to another thread which was warning against the PLUS. Just something to be aware of if your pup is small or very young. |
Fleas :aimeeyork Thanks :) for the link to the other thread. I wonder if I can put it on both my babies because when I put the advantage on Jack a few weeks ago i didnt use the whole tube because it would have saturared his whole neck. Since Mandy is so small only 3.4 oz at 6 months I really wonder if I can break it up for the both of them?? hmmm I will give the vet a call this morning. :) :aimeeyork :aimeeyork Jack and Mandy's Mom :aimeeyork |
When my two were little (below 1/2 weight of products), I divided everything. My vet said it was ok. Another vet (same office) later said no. I did it anyway, even with heartworm meds. It is for dogs 25# and up. |
I've tried many over the counter but found they didn't work that well. Many also make the hair very oily and some have a very unique smell. :-( Friend suggested Sentinel which is a All-in-one pill. Sentinel is a monthly heartworm and flea control pill. Sentinel prevents heartworm disease, controls flea populations, hookworminfections, removes and controls adult roundworm and whipworm infections. Cost is $42.95 every 6 months..Red box..But heck this is a great savings if you see all that it does. Cheapest I've seen it is on: http://www.bullwrinkle.com/index.htm....htm~indexmain Hope this info helps and best of luck. |
Fleas Well :) I just called the vet they told me that they just had a seminar on the different products and what she said was that advantage was the one that works the best because it does not wait for the fleas to bite the pup. Also she said the over the counter meds are not the same as prescription. She went on to tell me that If it soaks up in one spot to put it on different areas on the back of both of the pups. I was hoping she would say that it was ok to divide them. I guess the bottom line is that I will have to use my discretion at this point. Ohhh by the way price wise is 9.50 a tube decent price to pay for advantage :questione ???? :animal36 :jump28ib: Jack and Mandy's Mom :jump28ib: |
