That helps... thanks! I'm just nervous about making sure I get a dog from a reputable place... especially after seeing Oprah's show on puppy mills today! |
It would be great if you could rescue an adult yorkie and give it a wonderful life! You could check the rescue section on this forum! |
A chihuahua is probably not the best bet if you want to take him to work with you. They tend to be more territorial, barky and nippy. Yorkies make great lap dogs, and in my experience are not as yappy as a lot of other toy breeds. (Then again, each individual dog has it's own personality!) I absolutely say adopt/rescue! So many "breeders" are actually puppy millers (and back yard breeders) whose does are only bred for money, are over priced and often have health issues. You can check Search results - pets in adoption centers near Clayton, NC for a start in available yorkies. Contact local rescues and shelters to see what is available there as well! I'm a major advocate for rescue. So many wonderful dogs are in need of homes! |
Thanks for the rescue suggestions. I'm definitely open to adopting a dog... puppies are cute and it's sad to think of missing out on that, but I'd probably feel better giving a home to a dog that really needs it. My only concern with rescuing is how you know if you're getting a dog that's well bred and won't have a lot of health problems. Everyone seems to focus a lot on finding a good breeder that breeds healthy dogs, and I guess you just never know where a rescue dog comes from. If I have the dog checked out at the vet will he be able to tell if there's anything major that's wrong with the dog? |
