Yorkie Ears Standing Erect My puppy is 4 months old and his ears still have not stood up on their own. I read somewhere that you can tape them to help them stand up until he does it naturally. Does this hurt him if I tape his ears? And is he too old to try the taping now? I don't want to do it if it will hurt or not work. Thanks! |
You can tape them and sometimes it will help othertimes they will still flop...what you want to do is make sure that the sticky side isn't touching his ears(backwards) and make it go around and then go over that with the tape sticky side up so that his hair won't get caught and no pain...I hope I explained that right..I dod ot once buut Maximus looked liek a martian and so I said screw it!!! |
When Brody's ear was floppy, my vet advised us to massage his floppy ear. We did this for a couple of days and then his ear was sticking straight up and hasn't flopped down since then. I don't know if that's why his ear went back up, but it seemed to work. Sounds less painful than taping them. |
Could his hair be too long on his ears? Alley's ears started drooping and just last week I had the groomer trim them. They are almost back up 100%. |
. lexi;s 1 ear was up at 3 months. then two weeks later they both went up for about 2 weeks. and now one is back down.. go figure... just wait it out i would say..... |
Make sure the hair is trimmed off of the ear and the edge of the ear. You will be surprised how much hair comes off of a little ear that doesn't look that furry. When you are holding your puppy, put your thumb on the back of his ear and roll the folded over part gently upward toward the standing position with your index finger. You do not want to damage the ear or it will never stand. Do this as often as you can. The more you do, the better your chances are of getting the ears up. Pretty soon it will be too late. Add some cottage cheese to the food for about a week. Just like a teaspoon full per meal. Remember to cut back on the dog food amount since you are adding the cottage cheese. My 4 puppies are 8 weeks old and they all have their ears up. I always trim the puppies ears while they are young (several times) and have never had ears that weren't up by 8 weeks. |
