when does a Yorkie stop growing? This is probably a stupid question, however, i do not know how long it takes for a yorkie to reach their full growth? I understand yorkies vary in the amount of size and weight . I did not know there was such a difference . Now I am thinking Suzi is on the "big" side of the Yorkie spectrum . However, she is only going on 3 months. AND is at least 3.5 lbs. She is not fat, but, sems larger then most Yorkies? I need to quit , since she is healthy and active. Just curious? Thanks :aimeeyork |
My Trixie is 6 mos. and is 4.1 lbs. I think your baby is on a similar wt. track as mine. My guess is that she'll be on the small side, around 5 lbs. This is a good thing! I was told once that they stop growing around 10 mos. I have found Trixie to have leveled off a bit with the weight. She's still growing, but pretty slowly. I know they are all a bit different with their growth spurts, but I expect your baby to level off a bit too. It seems to me like you do have a little one there...perfect size, not too big and not too small. Good luck! |

I believe that my little furbby is going to be big too! He's only two months & he already weighs 2.45 pounds! Let me tell you, I was quite shocked when they weighed him at the vet's office, lol. My Chi is SUCH a tiny dog & was really, really small as a puppy, so I was very surprised to find out how big my Yorkie is right now! Actually though, I'm really happy that he's a bit bigger. I've just read that a lot of really tiny full grown Yorkies have a lof of health problems, so I'm actually very happy to have one that's going to be bigger :) -Amy |
My monkey stoped growing at about 10-11 months... she was 4.6 lbs at 4 month and 7.6 at 1 yr old. |
Its sure hard to tell about them when they are young. It seems even the runts of the litter can end up being the larger dog. But you will love them no matter what size they are. |
It's so hard to tell. Jake seemed to take forever to get to 3 lbs. and he stayed that weight until just before he turned a year old. Then, he had a growth spurt and ended up 4 1/2 lbs. Jackson is 9 1/2 mos. and is 6 1/2 lbs. and has seemed to stop growing. He may have a growing spurt, he may not. As much as I like Jake's tiny size, I honestly prefer Jackson's bigger size. I worry less about him, but we have to be extra careful around Jake. They say to take their 8 week weight and triple it, or their 12 week weight and double it. But, that is not always accurate. |
I really think it varies from dog to dog. Were the sire/dam 'on the bigger side'? My two kindof 'plateaued' around one year old. |
Kayla is 10mo. old and weighs about 6lbs. She eats all the time though. She loves to eat and her snacks. lol!! I really prefer her that weight because Tina, which is a toy schnauzer, is just about the same size but fatter than Kayla. When we got Tina, she was so tiny we put a cat collar with a bell on it on her. I was so afraid we would step on her and kill her. She finally began to grow and I prefer them being that size because I am a worry wart about them getting hurt. |
Bella is 11 months and weighs 3.25lbs, she is very frail in structure so even if she did gain some more I would still need to be very careful with her. Coco is 4.25lbs at 9 months, she looks the same size as Bella but is so much sturdier that I feel more confident that she won't get hurt as easily. |
My Meeka was 3.8 pounds at 15 weeks. She is now 8 months and weighs just under 6 pounds. My little zoey I got when she was 22 weeks and she weighed 2.8 pounds at that time. I will let you know what she weighs later on as she gets bigger. The Breeder said that she was going to be around 5 1/2 to 6 pounds full grown but I have a feeling that she is going to be much smaller than that. I personally like the bigger yorkies, especially that I have kids and even though they really don't even bother with the dogs it's nice to know that they are a little more sturdy. I wasn't expecting zoey to be so small but I love her just the same!! |
I just took Misty in and she weighed 5#8oz. at 5 months. She weighed 5#1 oz last month. so she seems to have slowed down a bit. Last month she gained over 2#. My SNoodles who weighed just 4# took 2 years to get to that. So, I guess it is any one's guess! I feel Misty will weigh around 10 to 11 pounds. Still small enough to take with me where ever I go, and not too big to be a pain in the you know what! Ha! Pat |
My Emma was 2.9 lbs at 6 months, and she had a growth spurt at around 1 yr old. She is now almost 2 yrs old and almost 4.5 lbs. My Miko was about 9 lbs at about 1 yr and he had a growth spurt at about that time. He is 4 yrs old now and 11 lbs. I think the rule of thumb is to double the weight at 12 weeks, but the truth is that we never know if/when they will have a growth spurt. |
Logan is almost 10 months and weighs 3 lbs. |
I understand that their bone structer stops growing at about 6 months. They may put on some more weight after that but shouldn't get any bigger. If that makes sense... |
Thank you for the insight you guys! It is funny that sometimes when I look at Suzi she looks like she has grown so much to me... LOL , then at other times she looks just the same as the day I got her. Suzi goes to the vet next week, so I'll get to see if she has actually gained any weight in the last three weeks. She seems to be doing well though .Very active, and eats well .She is quite the character too, and such a sweet little puppy :D |
