Two Yorkies?...Or not. My little Mac will b 2yrs on 8-7-08. He is one of the most handsome Yorkies I have ever seen! He has been the perfect little guy since the first night he came to live with us when he was nine weeks old. Potty training was a breeze, seldom barks, eats well, very smart..so smart, my husband thinks that not only does Mac understand English...he can read minds.(?)....and I think he is serious!:D anyways.. We want a female Yorkie. My concern is that bringing another pet into the house will change Mac. Will he start marking his territory? He has never done that and is NOT neutered. He weighs 6lbs and what if he is aggressive to a tiny baby girl? Mac is very spoiled, like all yorkies should be.... He is used to our un-divided attention. Please give me advice on what to expect.. |
I think if you find a Yorkie who has a more submissive personality than Mac, all should be fine. Just give them each their space and let Mac get acquainted in his own time and on his own terms. Be sure to give Mac everything first, food, water, toys, loves etc, before giving the same to the new puppy. Gracie was 1 1/2 when I brought home Holly. Within a few months, they were inseparable. If you can, take Mac with you to the breeder's to pick out the new puppy. That is what I did with Gracie. |
I had Jake for about a year before we got Jackson. Jake is VERY much a mama's boy, so I was worried that he would feel left out. I didn't want his behavior to change because he has always been soooo good. The first three days were the worst, and then things got better. He seemed mad at me and wouldn't let me hold him. He would literally turn his head away when I tried to talk to him. But, he wasn't mad at my husband!!! I just kept trying to talk to him and play with him and gave him extra attention and tried not to make a really big deal out of the new puppy (which was hard--I was excited!). He was hesitant about getting close to Jackson at first, until he realized that he might be pretty fun to play with and hang out with....and get in trouble with!:D I took Jake outside, just the two of us, and we played for awhile. I gave him lots of attention and spent time with just him. It seemed to help him get over being mad at me. The two of them have a great time playing together and get along great! Jake rarely seems jealous of Jackson, however, Jackson does get jealous of Jake. I think as long as I keep giving them both lots of attention and once Jackson matures a little bit, that will change. Jake's behavior hasn't changed, he is still just as sweet as ever. Now, I have two mama's boys.:) I LOVE having two!!:) ETA: We also took Jake with us when we went to pick up Jackson. |
I have three plus a Pommie. The girls are both seniors so they didn't want anything to do with Chipper when I got him. Felt sorry for him so I adopted a rescue Pommie. They adore each other. It is sooooo much fun watching them play. They are more entertainment than any TV show can ever offer!:D |
