3lb baby Hi all, I am considering buying a yorkie pup that is 3lbs at 9 weeks of age. Did anyone on here get a pup that size at that age? If you did could you please tell me about what size they are grown up? I would really appreciate any help on this. Thanks meeshue |
The rule of thumb is to take the 8 week weight and triple it. That will give you an estimate of the full-grown weight. Or, you can take the 12 week weight and double it. 9 weeks is pretty young, I would wait until 10-12 weeks. I'm guessing the full-grown weight to be about 8-9 lbs. Do you know anything about the parents? |
I got Lulu at 8 weeks and she was 2 lbs. now she is 5 months old and a little over 4 lbs. they predict that she will be 6-7 lbs. hope that helps. |

When I saw Tink I just had to have her, was worried about having her so tiny and so young, but I guess I have done ok with her. The weight is not fat at all, she is just a healthy size! Her sister who was twice the size of her at 8 weeks is now smaller than her.....strange. |
I would bet this pup will turn out to be 9 or 10 lb. |
Thank you all for the great advise. My husband has me on a strick budget for this pup. I quess for what I want to pay it will be hard finding one within the standards. I would have liked one that would be in the 5-6lb range but I find it almost impossible to get one in my price range. Well anyway I am in no hurry and I will keep looking for the right one. Again thanks to everyone who responded. You Guys are Great! meeshue |

The growth chart is basically a guideline to go by, but it isn't completely accurate. Jake was 1 lb. 10 oz. at 10 weeks, and he is now 4 1/2 lbs. full grown. Jackson was a little over 2 lbs. at 10 weeks, and he is 9 mos. old now and 6 1/2 lbs. It's really hard to predict. Good luck with your decision! |

Our Daisy was 3 lbs @ 10 weeks when we brought her home, ,she is our "Monster Dog",, at now 9 lbs 14 oz,,,with NO fat on her! shes just big,, her sire throws big pups,, but,, she is just MORE TO LOVE!!!!:) |
Andy weighed 3.4 pounds at 9 weeks when I took him to the vet now he weighs 4.8 at 10 months |
I so do not believe in the weight charts.. I have never known anyone that it worked out for them.. As you see from posts.. it is hard to really tell.. some get a large puppy and then it does not grow.. I sold a female two years ago.. she was so fat.. weighed 6 oz at birth.. and yet she ended up to be the same size pretty much as my gracie that I kept.. and gracie weighed just over 2 oz and had to be tube fed every two hours night and day for two weeks.. so I personally find it really hard to figure out.. Mara was 1.5 pounds at 3 weeks.. triple that and she would be 4.5 pounds and she is 6 pounds at one year old.. but she is really long.. no fat what so ever.. I would watch the threads on here also.. many times there are yorkies on here and the price is not that bad.. some times a yorkie is young and needs to be rehomed.. and is posted on YT....anne |
I am getting a yorkie from a breeder recommended on this site. She has some less expensive puppies currently on her web site nataliesyorkies.com. She was very nice when I spoke to her on the phone and others from yorkietalk have her dogs. |
Thanks all for the wonderful advise. It just goes to show that there is no way to really tell what size they will be. I will go see her on Sunday, but I will not be hasty in my decision. I will see the parents and go from there. I will not take her just to say I have a yorkie! Again I want to thank everyone. Yorkie Talkers ROCK. meeshue |
My neighbors got their Yorkie at 11 or 12 weeks and he was 3 or 3 1/2 lbs and he's now a little over a year and weighs 14lbs! :) You never really know though! |
I was wondering how big Suzi will be full grown too. I got her at 9 weeks old, and she went to the vet at going on 10 weeks. She is a plucky 3.5 lbs . This seems on the big side to me for a Yorkie. However, she is more stalky then "fat" She is very healthy, playful, and full of life . Suzi is starting to change color on the top of her head. I can see it coming in, the bluish, gray. At what age do they start growin into their natural hair color? IS it different for every pup? I am thinking Suzi will around the 9lb range if she keeps up with the predicted weight pattern . I guess she is going to be over the weight limit for a Yorkie. As long as she is healthy I do not care. :aimeeyork |
