Any tips for camping with Mac? Hey Guys, This year will be my first camping trip with Mac. We're going for 8 days, and I hope that some of you can help me out with what I should bring. I'm planning on getting him a life jacket, because we go canoing quite often. I also want to get him some kind of ball that can attach to his collar, so that if he runs of on us (knock on wood), we'll be able to track him down easier. Any other tips? Thanks |
When we have taken our dogs camping they each have a screw in ground stake, they came with a long washing line type plastic coated wire with clips either so you can attach it to the dogs harness. This way they can have more freedom without getting into too much trouble!:D |
If his tags do not include your cell phone number....I highly recommend having one made. Calling our home phone number if one got lost while camping...would be a moot point. Treat him with a flea and tick pretentative before hand. Lots of ticks in wooded campsites. |
We take our pups camping all the time, they love it! I'm sure you and Mac will have a blast! It is important to have a long leash, because most places won't be suitable for him to be off leash. Then you can just tie it to your chair or a stake in the ground. Depending on where you go camping (we camp in TX) you might want to take a shirt to prevent sunburn if he will be in the hot sun for a long time. Also an old towel or something you can lay on the ground that he can lay on. other than that, we just take their food, their normal leashes, and their crate. We even have a little doggie door on our tent :p Oh yeah! A flea and tick collar might be a good idea for the time you are out there. I hope you all have the best time! Camping is so much fun! |
How much fun will that be!!! Ranger LOVES to go camping! I don't know where you are, but I would def. take a coat, t-shirt and sweatshirt for him. Oh and his raincoat. Ranger wears his sweatshirt ALL the time when we're camping. Even if it is 70 he still likes it! And he sleeps in jammies or the sweatshirt at night, despite having a heater, he still gets cold. I would def. also take lots of blankets, because if your baby gets wet he will want to snuggle in his blankie. I also take his x-pen but I like the stake idea. These guys are so tiny they should never be off-leash camping as it would be way to easy for a large bird, coyote or other dog to snatch them up. Long leashes are good. Also something for shade over the pen so they don't get too hot. Oh yeah, also I like those portable water dishes that are made of some sort of nylon with plastic lining, and bottled water so they don't get sick. I can also never leave the house for a trip without Pepto, because sometimes if they get nervous they can have stomach upset which I learned the hard way, can get bad really fast! I give a dose at the first sign of diarrhea and haven't had any serious problems since. Ummm, what else? I am one of those OCD people who have to make lists of EVERYTHING I need, hubby thinks it's ridiculous, I think it's neccesity! It's hard packing both mine and Ranger's bags without forgetting anything! Good luck!! |
Thanks for all the great tips guys, it's sure going to make our trip a lot more pleasant. Amanda: For the Pepto, do you give your guy the pills or the liquid? And don't worry, my wife makes a list for everything too! :) We actually already have a camping list that we use every year to make sure we don't forget anything. I guess now we'll have to add "Mac's Stuff" to it. And where we're going camping we have wolves and black bears, so I'll make sure my little guy is always on the leash. We've already had close encounters with bears a couple times at this park. I'm so excited about this trip. Me and my wife love camping, so it's very exciting to share that with Mac. I'll post pictures and an update when we come back! :) |
We took my gang camping one year and Lillie, for the life of my got out of the tent, I think when one of the kids came to bed, they did not zip it up all the way and she is so tiny, she just squeezed out! For some reason, something woke me up and Lillie always sleeps on my hip or right on top of me and I went to feel for her and she was gone! I heard this noise outside the tent and 1st thought it was a coon and I jumped up and OMG there was Lillie outside the tent eating her dog food! So my tip is please make sure the tent is ALWAYS zipped up tightly! |
Awesome! You will have to tell us all about it! |
Murfee loves to go camping. We have been all over with him. I will agree that he shouldn't be let off the leash. We keep Murfee on leash at all times, unless he is in my front pack. Good luck and have fun. |
We just got back from camping with our 5 yorkies. Well, we were in the RV instead of a tent, but it was still camping. I always take nutrical, benedryl, and hydrogen peroxide in addition to the pepto. You can never be too careful with these little guys. I also took 2 expens and put them together for their play yard. Have fun, but keep a close eye on that baby!:p |
