"Designer Breeds" I have a friend who told me over the weekend she was out of town in Lakeland, FL. They drove by a flea market and she is big into antiques so they stopped. She said there were tons of puppies for sale! One couple were advertising "designer breeds". They were selling Rottipoos! And told my friend they also breed Dalmapoos! I can't even imagine what this dog would look like. She said the "rottipoo" looked like a rottweiler with curly poodle hair. She also said another person there was selling yorkies. A guy had a white van with crates lined up and took the crates out and put them on the tables for all to buy. She said it was absolutely disgusting. The sad thing is she said she saw several people buying the yorkies :eek::mad: |
How awfull, is this a weekly event there? Maybe someone in the town needs to call the local animal control and have the sellers investigated |
I wish every state would outlaw the selling of animals at flea markets. I've have come to realize....some people will breed any breed to another...and make up that fancy name. |
I have to admit we got our first yorkie at a flea market. My wife got him as a surprise birthday present for me. Since then, we have learned so much and would never consider such a thing again but I believe many people get their's this way or they wouldn't still be selling them there. The buyer receives little or no instruction on proper care and has no idea of the quality or health of the puppies. It's really sad that some breeders do this. They depend on 'impulse buying' which is the wrong way to get a puppy and the breeder knows better. As far as some of the other 'breeds' you mentioned, all I can say is....OMG . |
OMG i had no idea this sort of thing happaens, so is a fla market like a car boot sale? Thats so horrible to think of them furbabies not being looked after and put on tables for people to gorp at them, must be so scary for the little ones :( Makes me sick to even think about it!! |
there's a flea market around here where people go to sell...I've never been, I think it would piss me off too much... |

Oh the flea market thing is awful here too... they pay 5.00 to get into a "special" section of the parking lot and people sell filthy, sickly puppies out of the trunks of their cars.... OCASSIONALLY, there will be a "pretty puppy" with a "breeder" who's at LEAST taken the time to bathe and brush him and brought out an xpen or something to give them some more space, but the whole thing is just awful. I don't think the experience frightens the pups so much though... they always seem (if they're well enough to even show emotion) super thrilled just having nice people come by and pet, play with and pay attention to them.... poor things... :( |
You can only pray all those pups that did sell go to a loving home.:( |
omg that just sounds horrible for the pups. and i cant believe the mixes u mentioned:eek: i wish ther was something wecould do |
OMG..........that is so sad! What is wrong w/people! |

A ROTTIEPOO ? OMG that poor poode - I think that's insane and sick. ALL these people breeding for greed make me sick and a word to those who actually GO TO FLEA MARKETS - remember - many or most of these cute little 'puppies' have NEVER SEEN A VET - Parvo runs rampant. I know this because I've heard from people in houston that learned that hard lesson. People need to talk about this more and tell ANYONE YOU SEE At these 'flea' markets (and there probably ARE fleas at most of them) that this is NOT THE PLACE TO BUY A PUPPY - I feel so sorry for the dogs involved - but there is only heartache in their future. It should be against the LAW. |
That is sad! Xavier was purchased from a flea market in Tupelo, MS as a gift for me. (This was prior to our learning about BYB's) Now we just found out about the puppy mill bust in Tupelo, and that the puppies were sold at flea markets. Our breeder" had a different name though, so maybe we're safe??? Anyway, my MIL almost bought a "Morkie" for me instead, but I gently tried to explain that I thought it'd be silly to pay what they were asking for a "designer mutt". His "breeder" gave my MIL his CKC papers and said he had a health guarantee, so we thought she must have been legit. Most people have no idea that its wrong to purchase from places like that. They hear "registered" and "health guarantee" and think that must be a good sign. Luckily, he is adorable and hasn't had any health issues praise God, but we will never buy another puppy from a place like that! |
That is so sad, those poor pups.....I came across this link on designer pups and was shocked at the number of combinations people are breeding......if you can dream it up it's there..... Hybrid Dog, Designer Dog, Hybrid Dogs, Designer Dogs |
