Seriously I owned a cat...who would be manic itching...over a single flea bite. I thought he didn't have fleas...well he did. |
Don't use Dawn if you've recently applied a topical flea/tick treatment like Frontline. The Dawn will wash it away. If you're using something like frontline, you need to use a soap free shampoo, at least that's what my vet tells me. |
Why can't someone figure out a way to eradicate fleas from the entire universe? Do we need them for ANYTHING? |

and I'm happy to say - after only a few days on Frontline Plus and a special medicated shampoo from a GOOD FRIEND (Yorkiecrazy) the girls are fine:thumbup: and there are NO FLEAS I washed everything last week - treated them ...and they are not scratching at all now YAY !!!! They just had baths after the 'waiting time' and I saw ONE dead flea in the bath - I know I caught it before it got bad - so from now on we are on Frontline. In the 6 years I've had a yorkie - I've never had to treat them cause I had my own house .....but with apartment living it's a whole new ballgame :( |

I wanted you to know last year we had flea problems bad here with Teddy, Tiffanie and Galahad...I used the Frontline Plus and I have to say it did good buttttttt I did notice that Teddys coat was thining on his head now that I look back a photos taken of him last Summer. Since not using the Frontline since the end of last Summer his coat is back to being thick again on his head. I really think it was the frontline that did this to him, yes we had Fleas before but his coat never thinned before with fleas until I used the Fronline. But I feel it was the Frontline...Just my OPO tho. It did get rid of the fleas tho. Hubby got some "Spectacide Triazicide Once and Done Insect Killer (Kills insect above and below ground)" And started using it on our lawns (Front and back yards) and the Flea problem was put to a DEAD STOP....We haven't had a FLEA one since he started using this on our yards. I know some of you may come and say NO, it's not safe well no it isn't but IF you DO it as the LABEL says then it is safe for all humans and pets... This is how we do it and we have 5 Yorkies, 4 daughters and 1 granddaughter...and NONE of them have gotten sick from doing it the way we do it. Hubby mows the yard 1st, then applies it with a spreader just before a good soaking rain, in the Back Yard 1st...We DO NOT step foot in our Back Yard for a WEEK. We all go in the front yard to play and visit and if I take my Yorkies outside they all go in the front yard. The he will wait until another rain and do the front yard...We once again DO NOT step foot in the front yard for a WEEK. We all go to the back yard. If it is during the Summer as it was late last Summer when we 1st started using it...Then we mow, apply, water the yard (Hubby does) He has special shoes for this and they don't come any where around us or our Yorkies. He puts them in our shed along with the lawn items. This is what the bag says: "Keep Children and Pets off treated area until product has been watered in and lawn is dry." He already put a treatment on our yards the 1st of April just to make sure we didn't get the fleas started again. I just ask him when he would put it on again he said every few months. I ask about Winter he said well if we get a warm Winter then I'll do it then too... I love this product. We don't have a flea problem at all. Just thought I would share this with you all. And of course this is me & my OPO of these products :) Lee |
DANG fleas! I'm glad you figured it out. Thanks for the tips. I hope your girls are feeling less itchy soon!! |
We are going through the same thing right now. We have NEVER had fleas in our yard. I know thats hard to believe but we have never had a flea problem. Now, I have only one of my schnauzers itching and then Kayla, my yorkie baby. I have bathed her 3 times in the last 4 days. No sign of fleas or anything. She is going crazy. Tonite I used a medicated shampoo and then her puppy shampoo. Never seen a flea. The Dawn idea is great. It really works for even itchy skin. (allergies) I am scared to death of Frontline, Advantage or anything. I have bought a holistic spray. Mandy in one hr. times of applying Frontline could not walk on one of her hind legs and was dragging her foot, turned under. Scared me half to death. My husband said no more chemicals. I just don't know what to do if it is fleas this year unless use Dawn first and then their shampoo. Hope everything is okay and your babies do good on the Frontline. I am just scared of everything nowdays. |
Winston has always used Advantage...no fleas...no problems. The Vet is now recommending a change...what do you all suggest then Frontline? V-I'm happy to hear the Dawn test worked...and your girls are hopefully flea free. And by the way...I've been itching since I started reading this thread...I hate the thought of fleas! |
