Confused yorkie owner Hi everyone, Can anyone help me. i have a 9 year old yorkie dog. he's called jakey and he's so cute, anyway i really really want to get another yorkie, but jakey won't let me. He sulks really bad, won't eat properly, doesn't want to play (and he always wants to play) and just generally not intrested in anything. He is spoilt and i know that's my fault, but he's adorable. He's never been neutered and he's never breeded. My mum has a yorkie called jack who's 8 year old and jakey is fine with him. They play together great and fight great (ya know what little boy's are like lol) but he has grown up with jack, so i think that's why he get's on with jack. I do wonder if in time when jakey see's new doggy is not going anywhere and mummy still loves him loads too that he might come round and get on with it, but i worry if he doesn't then i have big problems. I love jakey so much and really don't wanna upset him, but i'd love another one or two because i really can give them a good home and a lotta love. So if anyone has any idea's or tips etc, i'd love to hear them and would really appriciate it. Thanks guy's.:confused: |
It may best for you to get a female yorkie as he may react better, usually they accept each other it just takes time. Or try the UK rescue site they might let you foster for them and if your dog get on alright you could be a failed fosterer.:D If you want any details of the uk site give me a PM.:D |

Sadie was 2 yrs old and my only furchild when I brought her new fursister, Lillie, home to live with us...NOT A GOOD IDEA! Sadie was very very sad and wasn't all that nice to Lillie. First thought that came to mind was "what did I do"? I wasn't about to give Lillie back. I would separate them when I wasn't home. I would NEVER leave them alone together unless I was home. My parents furbaby sat for me for the first year that I had Lillie. And if they had to leave, they would put Lillie in a crate ...I would say it took at LEAST 2 months before Sadie would even play with Lillie. Sadie is now 3 yrs old and Lillie is 2 yrs old...they are best buddies and will sleep together...Don't get me wrong...Sadie is still the alpha dog but, she does like her fursister now. If you decide to get another I would go with a female and just give it time. |

I had Lucy a 2 year old Maltese that is spoiled rotton when i got Cooper who was about 15 months old. At first Lucy wanted nothing to do with Cooper. Lucy sleeps with me and would not allow Cooper near me at night, so I kept Cooper in his crate for the first couple months while Lucy got used to having him around. We played often on the bed during the day time and Lucy get used to him being there, so both sleep with me with no problems. Lucy is still the boss but they get along swell now. |
The only problem with a new dog in your home would be the neutering! Dogs adapt to each other after an initial period of "getting to know each other." You will have to make sure your current dog gets even more attention than he's used to once the new one is in town. I do forsee more problems due to the fact your dog is not neutered. There may be more aggression if you introduce another male, and puppies if you introduce an un fixed female (du, I know). We introduced a puppy with an 8 yr old neutered male a few months ago and they now absolutely adore each other. I make sure Rascal (older dog) gets his "alone" time in the yard without Trixie loving him to death. When they are together, they play alot and Rascal ends up getting more excercise than he used to. It's really brought more "life" to the ol man! :) |
