spay nueter clinics...trustworthy? some advice please! ok so im in college and my dad pays for everything however i work at petco. and i can prove that i am a low income person. so i can use the low income spay nueter clincs....would you guys trust them?? im a little leary but surely they have done thousands of them so they would be good right? or should i just choke up the extra money and have my vet do it??? and if i could do the low income clinics, which would you suggest as a good one? anyone have experience with any of them? |
Have you tried "Friends of Animals?" You can get a voucher through them for a low cost spay/neuter, then go to one of the Vets they have listed as a partner. I'm not sure about where you are, but several of the ones listed here where I am are top notch animal hospitals. HTH! |
wow awesome idea!!! ill check that out!!!!!!!! thanks!!!!! |
Check with your local SPCA also to se if they offer the vouchers you can take to the vet. In my area (Raleigh, North Carolina), the list of vets who honor the voucher is long. The problem with the spay/neuter clinics is that is all they do - just the spay or neuter. It is essential that you get pre op bloodwork, especially with a Yorkie since they are 36 times more likely to have a liver shunt than all other breeds combined. It will alert the vet to any problem she might have that could make anesthesia dangerous and could save her life. Yorkies also tend to retain baby teeth. It is customary to remove them during the spay, but a spay/neuter clinic will not do that. If you have to have it done separately, it will cost several hundred dollars and, require another anesthesia for her. I will be much cheaper to have it done during her spay even if you can't get a voucher. |
