How To Tell if Parti carrier Just courious, my Yorki, her name is HazelNut, she is Black and Tan colored, but she has alot of white on her head also, and white on her legs. Would she have a Parti carrier gene? Looking back, when we picked her out, we had traveled 6 hours to get her, were real full of anxiety, and had just lost a pup to unusual circumstances, we looked in the basket full of pups, and they all looked bald! They all actually had white heads. I'm not going to breed her, she is already spayed, just courious about her unusal coloring. When I bought her, I recall the breeder lady saying she had a Chocolate, and never had one that color before, Just wondering. I was so desperate for a pup I would of taken her even if she was bald, she's turned into a very beautiful dog.:aimeeyork |
If you can contact the breeder she may know. Otherwise there really isn't any way that I can imagine you would be able to know. |
When I got my first yorkie I thought he was losing the hair on his head (his was also growing in white). It's just the way the hair changes to tan. I can't say if your yorkie is a carrier or not but that at least is normal for yorkies. :) |
Joey started turning white at about 12 weeks and because it was the color of his skin and hair tips were black he looked baldish. After all the tips were cut off and he was all grey he looked better. Somewhere around the age of 1 year it turned beige, but it didn't seem to occur at the root, but rather the entire hair. I just don't think that's possible, but that's the way it seems to have happened. The Parti gene is entirely different. Some people say that they have pink freckles on their tummies and or the roof of their mouths. |
Do you recall any other birth "marks" like white socks or something? It can well be possible that he has a party gene on him, but the "silver hair" on top of his head alone is not an indicator of anything at all... a lot of yorkies do have a silver top head at athe beggining then it turns to gold usually... or tan but not often an intense tan with the cinnamon hint to it.... well... hard to say , guess you still do not have an answer huh... |
Tammy (YT member TammyJM) has a Parti girl and just recently got a new baby boy that is a Parti carrier....you may want to PM her and ask her some questions - she knows alot about them :) She is a sweetie pie and I'm sure she would be happy to help ;) |
