Jumping Off the Bed... My little one has stairs that she uses to get on our couch and bed, however she never uses them to get down...she always jumps  Do you all let your little one's jump off the bed or should I see if I can train her to use the stairs so there isn't so much force being put on her little legs? |
Bailey does the same, he jumps of my lap using my leg to help him kick off more as he jumps through the air normally aiming for leah LOL i am trying to train him not to but not having much luck lol. |
Tink does not jump off the bed or the sofa, she sits and waits to be lifted down. Today I found her up on the sofa, which surprised me, so she has learnt to get up ok, but she was sat there waiting to be lifted down. A bit like the stairs she learnt to go up (got stuck half way a few times), but it took a couple of weeks for her to learn how to go down stairs. |
Emmy does the same thing. Sometimes she looks like she's trying to fly when she leaps off the bed. |
Yikes!!!!That is scary, I know I would have a fit if mine tried to jump without using the steps. I would seriously try to discourage it since they could really injure themselves in the process. |
Dudley jumps off the couch just fine but our bed is a pillowtop mattress and he can't get up on it, so we have an ottoman at the foot and he uses it to get up. He does jump off fine. Miley leaps off the couch and lands several feet from the couch but she can't jump on the couch and she can't get on or off our bed. |
So How do you train them to use the stair (Up & Down)? I want to train her from the beginning. What should I do? |

None of my dogs will take the stairs back off the bed; so much quicker to jump. Makes me mad because I know it is not good for them! |
I use a good stool and teach them to go down it as they do going up..anne |
Please don't let them jump!!!! 1 Attachment(s) Quote:
Fractured growth plate! Luckily his poor leg has continuet to grow evenly with the rest. But after a good play he will start favoring it as it's hurting. These little ones think they are bigger than they really are! sometimes we need to remind them that their not, lol! |
I don't think it would hurt to try and train him to use the steps. Maggy May learned to jump up on the couch and bed as well, but has trouble with getting on the bed a lot of the time. My project this weekend is to build her/her very own steps so she can get up on our bed easily. |

When Duke was a puppy he wouldn't jump off of anything, as he got older he started judging for himself. My mom's bed is really high off of the ground so whenever he is at her house, if he gets on the bed, he wont jump down. But he jumps off couches and my bed. He is also on the bigger side, so I don't have to worry as much about him hurting himself. |
I have the same problem with Meeko. He'll either use his stairs or the ottoman to get on the bed but, always jumps off. I've tried training him not to jump but it hasn't worked. I don't worry too, too much because he's teapot and weight 10lbs. I still get nervous tho. |
Roxi goes back & forth... If she's exited she jumps, otherwise she takes the stairs... |
