Belly Bands? Do your yorkies wear them? I got some for Carter and they're ADORABLE but he goes comatose when I put it on him, and I worry that it's irritating his skin. He can't run around and he just kind of lays around looking depressed until I take it off. Should I just force him to get used to it you think? |
I love them I think belly bands are the best thing ever invented. My boys accepted them just fine, so I expect yours will get used to them. Maybe you got it too tight? Good luck. |
Hm, yeah. I hope he does get used to it because it seems like such a life-saver! I mean carpet saver! |
My poodle, Indy, had to wear belly bands the last few months of his life. They were a blessing. He didn't like them to begin with but finally got used to them. He would stand perfectly still with this "deer in the headlights" look. Poor little guy. After a few days, he was OK with them. Be sure they aren't too tight on him though. I made Indy's so I could adjust them to his weight. They are very simple to make. Another thing I was careful about was to wipe him with baby-wipe disposable towelettes so he didn't get irritated skin. I warmed them in the microwave a bit so they weren't cold. He was quite elderly and I didn't want to give him more stress than necessary.:) Good luck with your belly bands. Just stay on track and he'll get used to them. |
it's better to get them used to it young. |
One more thing...If you are lining it with a lady's pad...make sure the corners aren't flipping up and pulling his hair. :( That happened to my friend with her JRT... the more he wiggled with it on, the more it got stuck. Now she has found some that don't have the adhesive so close to the edge. |
Are belly bands just for the boys?? Ive always been under the assumption that belly bands were just for boys. But I have recently moved and my lil girl Pokey is pretty much needing RE-potty training! Can I use the belly bands for my girl as a training mechanism? Any input is greatly appreciated! I moved from a condo with grass but now my new condo is ivy and a large deck so she's a lil unfamiliar with the new grounds and has started peeing everywhere on my new carpet! Ive had to keep her in her crate area more than Id like to. Even in the crate area which is very wide open, she wont even go to her pee pads right now. She just pees and poops all over her entire play space. I work from home and let Pokey (she's 7 months old today) roam freely around the house even though shes usually playing by my desk! In the old place she was doing great with going to her pee pads when in the crate and on the grass when we went out every hour or so. But now she's "peeing freely" again and I think I need a new option! |

Sorry... but the picture u show...is that your boy with his belly band on? ...as it looks like he is wearing a collar with his legs bound...I am not trying to be smart with you.. but wish 2 help your boy...I have only 1 gentleman at the time with 3 ladies. When my girls need 2 pay attention ( as they will also mark with a male in the house) they all wear diapers...getting my male to understand that he had to do the same...but different...(no leg holes) I always made it a good thing...with praise when I put it on..no matter how much he scrambled...saying in a higher pitched voice than natural 4 me.."no pee"...he sees what I am doing and recognizes that it is his turn...turns around to give me his butt...then I put it on...making sure that his pee pee is inside...He learned after a few times of wetting it and did not like the feeling of walkin wet...that he was not going to do that too many time...he trained himself...Just like crate training with their bed. Thus...the "belly band" 4 males. My male Boo Boo is 3.75 lbs with his harem of 3 ladies weighing in @ 3.2, 4.5, 5.1 lbs. It important that you alway check that it is not too big or small that the hips (long leg bone) can move freely that their is no hair pulling and that the elastic is not too tight (I use all 4 fingers without stretching the elastic) Repetition is the only way to go with any training. :aimeeyork:animal-pa ...babyface yorkies |
give them time, they will get use to them. Try bribing him with some yummy treats or chicken. I just made a diaper for my 3 lb yorkie yesterday and she was walking so funny, she hated it, but she is doing much better now. |
