Choosing a carseat I have decided it is time to get Layla a carseat. She is not happy unless she is laying down on my lap, but I know that's completely not safe. When she was a baby I tried having her in a travel crate but she was NOT having any of that. I drove 4 and a half hours with her screaming... not whimpering or crying, but SCREAMING, and I thought I just can't do that anymore. I know it would have been better if I had just kept up with it but I didn't have the patience. Anyway, I know she is nervous in a car to begin with and she's not happy unless she's able to be touching me at all times. So I feel like being in the backseat is not an option. I've looked and I don't think I can turn off my passenger airbag. I also can't find a console carseat for a dog of her size... she's about 9 lbs. What can I do? |
I'm not sure what to advise you since a console won't work and you can't turn your air bags off! We have the Snoozer outlook and it's great! The dogs sit up high and can see out the window, so I know alot of dogs who previously hated riding in the car, do alot better! |
The only way to keep her up front with you is to put her in a hard sided crate, so if the airbag went off if wouldn't hurt her. Or you could get a Snoozer lookout seat in the back seat and just ignore her crying and get her used to it!! If you put the seat in the house and get her used to her chair before you put it in the car, she might like it. Then you put it in the car but you don't go anywhere and you praise her and give her treats, then you just start the car and give treats, then you just go down the block and then finally she should be adjusted to the back seat!! Make the seat a positive experience and she should be riding quietly in no time!! |
I love this seat we got for Joey, it straps in the car, and has wheels so it's easy to scoot him around. They can stand and look out, or lie down. It comes in 3 different sizes. Snoozer Pet Products 86 - Wheel Around Travel Pet Carrier in Red |
Thanks for all the advice! I guess I am going to have to start putting her in the backseat. She is not going to be happy after spending over two years on my lap :( I guess that's my own fault though. |
