I did it! I know I made the right decision! I just called and set up Morgan's spay surgery! I have put it off for two reasons. One, my last yorkie had to have surgery at the age of 9 and he never made it home from the surgery. I bawled like a baby! It was very unexpected. Two, she is so much smaller than Toby was. He was about 11 or 12 pounds and she is maybe 5. She is over 14 months old. I know it is well past time to have it done. Better late then never right? I talked to the vet we always use and their fee was $110 plus extra for pain meds. She needs to have a hernia fixed at the same time and that is another $80. All that was fine then I asked how long she would be there. She said overnight. I said is there someone there with her and she said no. I asked is there anyway that I can get her that evening instead and she said no. I hung up and started calling other vets! Don't be telling me that I can't have my own baby! Please!! I got ahold of another vet that we have used in the past for emergencies (closer to our home). They charge $100 to spay her, $30 for pain meds, $80 to fix the hernia AND if I get a coupon from our local Humane Society they will take $50 off the price. She comes home that evening. (I said THANK YOU VERY MUCH!). She said they recover better in their own environment. They are doing it next Thursday and I have Friday's off so I thought that would work out wonderfully. I know I've made the right decision in FINALLY getting this set up. I just hope she doesn't go into heat before then. She hasn't had one yet. I need to post some pics of her. I haven't had any on here since she was a puppy. Sorry so long. I love this site!! |
You made the right decision for sure. When I had Sawyer nuetered, they wanted me to drop him off at 7:30, and pick him up later in the day when they called. After finding out that they do the spay and neutering inbetween appoitntments, and that he would be in a cage til lthey worked him in, I came up with a better plan. I took a book with me, and told them Sawyer and I were going to sit and read until they were ready for him. The vet laughed at me; but they nuetered him right away, and I took him home in about an hour. We have to speak up for our babies, they can't do it themselves:D Love is a two way street, they look out for us, and we look out for them. Sherry |
I'm with you guys! No way would my babies be left unattended for the night. Adie worried me when she came home because she was in so much pain even with the medication but she was fine the next morning. When she was so sick (when we first got her) I was taking her back and forth between the vet during the day and the emergency clinic during the night so she wouldn't be left alone and could have continuous IV's. When the vet said she didn't need to go back to the EVC but he still wanted to keep her til morning I pitched a fit. I said I could keep her very well and I would be taking her home. Stand up for your babies folks! We are all they've got! |
Good for you :thumbup:Good for you going the extra mile to make sure she's cared for properly!! The second vet is right. Why do they need to keep them all alone. That sound cruel. What if she were to throw up from the anethesia? She'll be better off at home , with people that luv her. Good luck |
Lexie was just spayed yesterday and I made sure when they told me she'd be staying overnight that someone would be staying with her. The on call dr. sits in the same room with the animals to make sure nothing crazy happens during the night. I was very grateful they did this and she came home to me today totally great. The incision was so tiny it hardly looked like anything had happened! |
Good for you, I know this is really difficult when you have had something so tragic happen in the past, but you are doing what right for your baby. I can understand a vet wanting a puppy to remain overnight, but if no one will be there why do they do this? Glad you found a vet that allows you to take her home. Great price too. You sound like a great mama. |
You Made the Right Decision!!! Crickett just had her surgery Friday. We had her there at 8:00am and picked her up when I got off work that night. I called to check on her once and they called to reassure me everything was okay once. When she came home all she did was sleep and lay in my lap. The next day she was back to her old self and by Sunday you would never know that anything took place. She has totally left her stitches alone so we didn't have to put a onsie or e-collar on her. I am so proud of her and I know you will be of your little one too. Crickett only took one pain pill, you had to break them in half so one pill was two doses. Now I have pills that she does not need, but I would be better safe than sorry, I didn't want her hurting. Please let us know how she does and keep us posted. You will be in my prayers. |
Thank you all so much for the reassurance! This vet calls as soon as the surgery is over and they also call after she wakes up. Plus I can call as much as I want to check on her. They seem like a very caring group. I will post back to let everyone know how she does. Thanks again! |
:animal-pahello i know its a tough decision, i was concerned about Justus not coming back from the surgery as well , due to his size etc, so now he is a year and 8 mos and going to be fixed tomorrow and his brother is 5 months old and getting fixed tomorrow too i can assure you i wont hold back as long next time as i had with my first, i am hoping it be a good decision especially for the youngest one Kayden as he has too much testosterone lol friendly great dog but doesnt know his own strength :animal-pa |
Last week , I had 3 little 2 pounds yorkie girls spayed . They kept them for 2 days at the hospital . They came back as if nothing happened to them . In 2 weeks , they will be in their wonderful forever homes . |
